A book of two halves, the first being fast, exciting, full of intrigue where you want to simply read and read to get to the conclusion. Then it stalls. The second half of the book is more about the character Lucas Davenport and his psychological and relationship problems. It seemed as though the first half had been planned but not the second. If you've read other Sandford's like Winter Prey or Secret Prey and hope for the same, then you'll be disappointed. On it's own it is good. The story is original, the pace is mostly right. Characters are interesting and it has enough action, romance, etc to keep you hooked. The problem is more the high quality of his other books and this just doesn't quite make the grade.
