Product Description

In Shadow House, Scott Bennett leaves behind a marriage ended by violence for the promise of a new life in rural North Carolina. Scott buys his dream house - an old Victorian - not realizing why it has sat vacant for years. Things for Scott seem to be looking up when he meets a younger woman, Rachel, and a spark of romance ignites. Everything changes when Scott discovers a locked box and a matching key on his property. Against the advice of an old friend turned healer, Scott opens the box and awakens an old evil. Scott is forced to lean on a decaying web of support as he is relentlessly assaulted by the unseen. Questioning his own sanity, Scott fights hopelessly for his life and very soul.

Looking Very Good! 23 Feb 2011
By Jenni Wren TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I've just downloaded and read the sample. Without a second's consideration I bought the book as it has already got me caught up in this guy's life. He has bought this wierd house and is already experiencing some very strange and worrying sounds/happenings. The writing is realistic, the hero is believable and one sympathises with him from the start. Well written and hard to put down. I'll add to this review when I've read the book but wanted to encourage others to try the sample in the meantime. I tried to download the whole book whilst on the train and wasn't able to, so I have since had to start another book already on my kindle but this is the next on my list!

a very tedious read 25 Feb 2011
By chloe b
Format:Kindle Edition
after reading the review on this book,i decided to try it ,wish i hadnt now. the subject (scott) seems to lead such a mundane life that instead of running down the stairs like the rest of us do, he flies. he also has a panchant for walking into voids of boxes which seems to be a contradition in terms.this author needs to try again .my advice dont bother.

My Review of Shadow House 30 Dec 2010
By Michael Collins - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I started reading Shadow House and couldn't stop until I finished it! Every waking free moment had me with my nose in the book. It was very good! A very entertaining read. I understand that this book is the first for author Steven Symes. While not the perfect novel, it is a very well-crafted story. It doesn't feel formulaic or a rehash of something previously done. This book reads as a fresh and fun horror book. The pace of the book started off great and continued moving well throughout. I enjoyed the conflict within Scott (the books protagonist), about his old life vs his new life. I also enjoyed the outside conflict of him being an out-of-towner in a small town. The frightening experiences in the house were just that, frightening. But the scary elements were also a lot of fun, like a great fun horror movie you watch over and over just because. The dialogue felt real, and it wasn't talking just for the sake of talking or to fill up the page. It read like things people would actually say and do. I got caught up in the lives of these new "friends" and couldn't stop reading until I saw out the entire story. At the conclusion of the book, I loved the revelation of what transpired in the house! It was so crazy and so good! There are some things that could have been explained better but that doesn't take away from the experience I had reading this new book and new author. I look forward to re-reading this book as well as reading future writing endeavors by Steven.

intriguing thriller 19 Jun 2010
By Connie Frazier - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Like the protagonist, I became more obsessed with the mysteries of his house as the story went on. The story is compelling and its mystery kept me reading. The author adeptly weaves a variety of human emotion and experience into this intriguing thriller. This book is an excellent start to this author's career as a novelist. Caution: you may not want to read it alone at night.

Hard to put down. 11 Jan 2012
By Utah Mom - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I started reading this late at night which was a bit of a mistake since it was so hard to put down. I found myself up most the night hanging on to find out what happened next. Definitely worth a kindle download.
