In 1978 all four Gibb Brothers wrote, produced and released the Top Song of the year, "Shadow Dancing". It settled Andy Gibb into mainstream conciousness as a rock star and teen idol not to be dismissed. It garnered more hits like, "Why" (released overseas), "Everlasting Love" and the #2 unbelievably beautiful ballad, "(Our Love)Don't Throw It All Away". The other six songs are strong as well, but don't reach the level of intensity, save for "I Go For You", which was donated to UNICEF. This album reached number one and the reasons are all in the ear.

'Shadow Dancing' is a curious album in some ways because on the one hand it is successful in reflecting the Bee Gees disco/soul sound which was dominating the airwaves at the time yet it also marks a dimming of Andy Gibb's own creative flame.

The songs tend to split into two separate groups - those that were written by/with Andy's brothers and recorded with them and those that Andy wrote alone. Fortunately those songs the Bee Gees had a hand in writing are all very good - 'Shadow Dancing', 'An Everlasting Love', 'Why' and 'Don't Throw It All Away' and form the foundation of the album. Sadly Andy's own songs aren't anywhere near as impressive although they all seem to fit in well within the context of the album. They are generally rather bland and forgettable. One can always claim it is probably a little unrealistic to expect the songs to be as good as his brothers, given the Bee Gees wealth of experience, yet on Andy's debut 'Flowing Rivers' they were a little better, showing more potential.

Overall 'Shadow Dancing' is an enjoyable listening experience if a little insubstantial. Much of its success has to go to his brothers, without whom Andy would not have achieved his success. Andy was very talented in his own right, however - he did possess a great singing voice and plenty of charisma but he often struggled to find his own identity away from his brothers - 'Shadow Dancing' being a case in point.

'Flowing Rivers', Andy's debut is a truer reflection of his own identity and is a little stronger, i feel.

This megaselling album kicks off with the brilliant title track that topped the US charts for 8 weeks way back in 1978. This song represents the cream of the disco genre - melodic, passionate and hypnotic. Why is a great ballad with a compelling chorus and lovely backing vocals, while Fool For A Night, written by Andy alone, is a neat piece of pop. This is followed by the catchy hits An Everlasting Love and Don't Throw It All Away, the second one a smoldering ballad. My other favourites include One More Look At The Night and Melody which again is more pop than disco. The best tracks here: Shadow Dancing, Why, Everlasting Love and Our Love, were all produced by Barry Gibb, Albhy Galuten and Karl Richardson, so that distinctive late 70's Bee Gees sound is prominent. But with his voice and phrasing, Andy stamps his own personality on this classy and engaging collection of superb songs. This music has proved to be surprisingly enduring.

This is the classic album from Andy Gibb - and his most successful. Ten great songs with that lovely summer sound of 1978! This combined with the fabulous Bee Gees trademark make this an excellent listening album. Includes the massive chart hit from that same year 'An Everlasting Love'. This is a great legacy from Andy.

Perfect!

This is fab ! Brings back such memories of when I bought it in vinyl format many years ago. The usual Barry Gibb 'out of this world production' Even my 8 yr old daughter loves it.
