This is a pop masterpiece .There are some excellent songs : ballads like 'our song' and 'Thee day you went away' as well as there being good uptempo songs such as 'Don't mess with my love' and 'Everything you do'. I would reccomend it to anyone who likes pop music.

This is no Pet Sounds but it's a tremendously enjoyable pop album with some incredibly catchy tunes. A lot of the songs are fairly similar but this doesn't detract from the album and it's thoroughly recommended. It's a shame that Marit and Marion have gone on their solo careers as neither have managed, despite some good attempts from them both, to duplicate the high standard of this album yet.

Simply put; Very good. The lyrics are good, the tunes are very easy to hum along to, and they exhibit a maturity beyond their years as vocalists. I'll definately get hold of the next CD as and when it is released.

You hear those bells? That's time being called on the music industry. After the recent domination of the charts by mixing decks and microphones, music today is the ridicule of showbiz. Can anything save it? Probably not but 'Shades of Purple' will certainly have a go. From beginning to end, the album just seeths pure class, with a freshness that slaps you round the face and says "This is what music is about!". From the chronically infectious 'Don't say you love me' to the thought provoking 'Mirror Mirror' to the emotional 'Our Song', the album is packed with masterfully mature music. Hopefully what we have seen so far is only an indication of things to come - Marit and Marion are only sixteen at the moment, their potential far from realised. Thank you ladies for putting the music back into the 'music business'.

M2M is one of those groups that you either seem to love or hate, and personally, I am in the former group. Granted their music isn't stuff the stuff of a genius lyrically, but it is some of the most tuneful and catchy stuff you can hear in music these days.
On Shades of Purple M2M are have high pitched and floaty vocals, not nearly as strong as on their second album "The Big Room"(Which in my opinion is better then SoP in that it is not quite as sacharine), also it is a little overproduced, just as much as many of the teen acts that came shortly before M2M. The thing that set this album apart from the pack was that they played their own instruments and they have a sort of genuine honesty that many other teen acts just don't have.
All of the songs on Shades of Purple are worth listening to, not a single skip-worthy song. Some of my personal favorite tracks include:
1. Mirror Mirror - A song about saying and doing one thing, when you really wanted to say/do something else. In this case its sending away a boy that you really love(In no particular order):
2. The Day you went Away - A song about a relationship gone sour with fantastic harmonies and a haunting melody.
3. Girl in your Dreams - This song is a mid-tempo and fun song about wanting a guy that has completely different taste in girls the looks department then what you have, and because of this things aren't working out. Well as silly as it sounds, been there done that a million times, until I realized people who are like that need to get over themselves, now I have a hubby that loves the way I look.
4. Pretty Boy - This is just a silly little ballad about a Pretty Boy, but its a very pretty song indeed, gorgeous melody and harmonies.... Read more ›
