It inspires and creates a magical feeling of the natural world around you. It's great for the more advanced children you have an understanding of the natural world. I think it's a wonderful book, and would recommend it to anyone who is looking to buy a good poetry book that you can read over and over again.

Don't be put off by the wispy title; this packs a punch. Anne Harvey is a national treasure and probably her original publisher Julia MacRae too. Her admirable anthologies are supposed to be for children. For children? The preface here cites Hildegard of Bingen and, while in simple language, makes no concessions; this book is a worthy precursor to The Thunder Mutters ('Thunderstorms menace': Hildegard). One to cherish, absolutely.
