Recorded in the early 1980s, both Shades of Gray and It's a Colourful World are a feast of melody, colour, rhythm and exotic harmonies, taking in styles such as jazz, funk, big band and light orchestral music, all blended into a glorious, kaleidoscopic whole. These albums demonstrate why Steve Gray, Syd Dale and Roland Shaw are regarded as being among the finest arranger-composers of their generation, while the immaculate musicianship, production and sound engineering are typical of the sheer quality of Amphonic Music's output.
