I have read many great gay love stories over the years, in different genres, settings, literary styles, but Shades of Gray surpasses them all for its believable, focused, gripping plot, for its realistic and elegant character portrayal, where the main as well as the secondary characters all engage the reader's attention and emotions through their physical and emotional journey. Despite the gripping plot, it's ultimately the character development what makes this novel stand out. There are no absolute villains or heroes here, only believable, flawed characters, with very human strengths and weaknesses, who have to navigate in very deep waters, and find themselves constantly having to reassess their beliefs and their priorities, gaining strength and validation from the growing feelings for each other. It's an angsty, gripping and ultimately very rewarding journey. A highly recommended book.

An excellent book full of angst and conflict. Very graphic in places so perhaps not for the squeemish.

"Shades of Grey" is an extraordinary story. It's been tagged "gay romance" but it's so much more than that. The plot is rich, both main characters amazingly developed (not to mention several wonderful sex scenes;))

It's a story I was always looking for. All the elements fit - the love story and the crime story are very well balanced. As a reader I didn't have the impresion that it's simply a story about good and bad guys but it's not a sweet, sugary romance either. It is simply a good book, one I, myself, would like to write:)

The author also explores the psychological sides of the characters and it's the thing that works for me best. I hope she'll write more books:)

Strong characters ,good story line, convincing- very open , emotional without the angsty stuff , yet real world kind of hardships portrayed. I found this a beautiful and stirring story. A keeper.

When I read the sample chapter I knew I would buy this book. It was a riveting read (somewhat gruesome in places but not so much that I couldn't deal with it).

Miller is supposed to be bringing a big time drug dealer to trial by forcing his right hand man, Danny, to turn witness. However, it doesn't quite go to plan, and the chemistry between the two men makes Miller question everything; his career, his relationship and his belief system.

I resented needing to sleep last night as I was desperate to keep reading. This is a very well written book, and a wonderful love story too. Cannot recommend it enough.
