Product Description

Ernest Shackleton is best known for his ENDURANCE expedition, but he took part in four Antarctic expeditions in all - the DISCOVERY (1902-4), the NIMROD expedition (1907-9), the ENDURANCE-AURORA expedition (1914-17) and QUEST, his final journey in 1921. Roland Huntford looks at Shackleton the explorer and leader of men, the hero of his day who was knighted by King Edward VII. This is a riveting story in words and pictures of rivalry, survival, comradeship and courage in the face of danger and hardship. Includes 100 photographs not published before, including Shackleton's own, and from personal archives in the UK, New Zealand & Australia.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Shackleton Voyages, 12 Jan 2009

(REAL NAME)
An excellent offering, superb photographs, many of which you wont see in any other books and absolutely amazing and true accounting of the 1914 Antarctic expedition which became famous for going wrong. This book is a classic account of one of man's most remarkable journeys captured on basic camera technolgy which would put a lot of current day photographers to shame.

Read it and discover for yourself. Great Book.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Shackleton Voyages, 8 Dec 2005
By Bruce in Toronto "Olde Dad" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Shackleton Voyages: A pictorial anthology of the polar explorer and Edwardian hero (Hardcover)
This is the twelfth book I've read that covers some aspect of the Shackleton story (or stories, there were more than one expedition). With the knowledge gained and the information learned, I can get rid of the other eleven off my shelves. This edition is an excellent summary of them all, and contains a treasure trove of pictures, some of which aren't in the other books. For someone looking to learn about Shackleton, this is not the place to start, except as a quick overview. An excellent offering, great writing, superb photographs.
