A more interesting book on polar exploration ... has yet to be written. -- New York Times Book Review

The best book of Polar travel which has ever been written. -- The Guardian

From the Back Cover

Men go into the void spaces of the world for various reasons. Some are actuated simply by a love of adventure, some have the keen thirst for scientific knowledge, and others again are drawn away from the trodden paths by the lure of 'little voices', the mysterious fascination of the unknown. I think that in my own case it was a combination of these factors that determined me to try my fortune again in the frozen south.

This is one of the great books and written by one of the worlds greatest explorers. The pre-expedition work by Shackleton and his friends to secure funds and equipment is key to understanding the man and why he suceeded later when most would have simply given up.
This is a real "Ripping Yarn" with superb photographs.
I borrowed this from my local library but knew half way through that I had to have my own copy.
I would recommend this book to anyone without hesitation but with a warning - be prepared to only to put the book down when finished.
