Sexy Ways 24 Nov 2007

My first year in High School was 1957, and about all I remembered about Hank Ballard were his hits like "Finger Poppin Time" and "There's a Thrill on the Hill". Having heard this album I suspect Hank must have been singing about Faith Hill. His recording of "Work with Me Annie" was banned because some folks felt Hank wasn't talking about gainful employment. Back in those days I was just a naive white kid, never suspecting that people with dirty minds wrote songs. In fairness, however, who could find fault with "Somebody put a jumping bean in Grannie's rocking chair"? Anyway, Hank Ballard is a real musical talent (if not a moral talent)and I enjoyed the album, but can we dismiss the damage to society done by those who have no comittment to morality? When we consider that there is an entire underclass of our society who have been victimized by the destruction of the family unit--people who couldn't pick their fathers out of a police lineup--we realize the damage done to generations as measured in the increase of drugs and drive-by shootings. Let's all get together and thank rock and roll. Maybe our parents were right after all.
