Product Description

Product Description
One day, Ralph Goldstein switches on the television to hear Ruud Gullit, former Dutch International and Chelsea player-manager extraordinaire coining the famous phrase 'Sexy Football' and realises how these two simple words sum up everything he believes in. Ralph had long felt that football could be a beautiful, fulfilling, artistic expression of love if we went about it in a positive manner. And by the way, if it was possible to play football in such a fashion, why not live like that too? 'Sexy Football' is ostensibly a novel about football but shoots off at bizarre tangents into many unexpected areas. It takes us in hilarious fashion through some of the thorny dilemmas we all face in coping with the vagaries of existence and, along the way, exposes some of the ridiculous attitudes and curious paradoxes that are ubiquitous in modern life.

4.0 out of 5 stars Does what it says on the tin, 28 Jan 2005
By Phil Murton (gloucestershire) - See all my reviews
I came to this book with few expectations and , in the case of the football anyway, even less knowledge. However on the back of an intriguing cover and the promise of a few laughs I handed over a fistful of coin and dived in. What a refreshing experience! I learned more about football than I thought possible (and more about the author's fantasisies than I thought desirable). For myself, I've always found laughing while I'm tumescent a struggle (though to my my girlfiend it seems as natural as breathing), but Mr Gilmore strikes a good balance between the twin obsessions of his hero in a funny readable light-hearted style. If you want to be educated, informed and entertained on the subjects dearest to the hearts of the nation's youth this book is just the job. Get stuck in!
