Synopsis

In the hallowed tradition of such coming-of-age comedies as PORKY'S and AMERICAN PIE, Sean Anders's SEX DRIVE is a genial and hilariously juvenile adventure about misguided intentions and true love. As the film opens, we meet the sensitive and lovelorn Ian Lafferty (Josh Zuckerman). Taunted by his testosterone-addled older brother, Rex (an excellent James Marsden), and shunned by his co-worker/dream girl, Ian takes solace in a raunchy Internet romance with a blond beauty known as Ms. Tasty. With college approaching and his virginity still intact, Ian allows his friend--and least likely Lothario--Lance (Clarke Duke) to talk him into driving from Chicago to Knoxville. There, Ms. Tasty has promised Ian a wild ride of a more intimate nature.

Complicating this lusty road trip is the boys' pilfering of Rex's beloved muscle car, as well as the presence of Ian's other best friend, Felicia (Amanda Crew). On the road to Knoxville the trio will encounter engine breakdowns, jilted backwater boyfriends, abstinent temptresses, and an Amish farmer (Seth Green) as handy with autos as he is quick with sarcasm. But as the action comes to a head in Knoxville, Ian and Felicia must confront the greatest hurdle yet: their feelings for each other. Will sex ruin the bonds of friendship? Will Lance change his carefree ways after an Amish assignation? And will Rex beat Ian to a bloody pulp once he catches up with Ian? Director Sean Anders fills SEX DRIVE with just the right mix of bawdy gags, sharp laughs and emotional honesty. The result is a randy romp that remains true to the lessons of its forefathers: love is never the trip you expect it to be.

3.0 out of 5 stars Super Bad and American Pie are better and more funny!, 27 May 2009
By Dragonlord (Cornwall) - See all my reviews
Thats not to say Sex Drive isn't a good teen comedy film because it is still better then many other pretenders. I felt that most of the funny parts were already shown in the trailer. Also there is another film called Road Trip which is about a group of teenagers going on a long distance drive which made me laugh more. Overall Sex Drive is a good teen comedy which is overshadowed by the other films that I have already stated. The cast are fresh and good especially Clake Duke (with the glasses) who I found stole the show a little bit. The extended version shows alot more naked breast for all you young males that like to that type thing but does'nt really improve the film. In fact I thought the original version was better because the film runs at a better pace and most of the extended footage is not needed. I love the car because it reminds me of the Dukes Of Hazzard which I use to watch when I was a kid back in the 1980's .You will be happy to know the blu-ray transfar is super but aren't all new blu-ray releases these days.

4.0 out of 5 stars Manic Road Trip, 1 Jun 2009
By D. Bain (London, England) - See all my reviews

First of all, if you liked the American pies, you will like this. the movie is pretty predictable, but you do have a lot of fun getting to the obvious ending. The basic premise is, virgin 18 year old boy, finds girl on internet who invites him for sex if he travels several hundred miles. Virgin boy sets off with very confident and very popular best friend, and also another best friend who he has known since they were kids, who just happens to be a very attractive girl (Amanda Crew), in his brothers favorite car. This is where the brilliant James Marsden as the homophobic brother comes in. It is a great performance by Marsden, but you cant help feel that Sean william-scott was not available, (Stifler anyone)There are several mishaps on the way, including Seth Green as a brilliant Amish man, who has a great line in sarcasm, and a really funny scene at a concert, advocating no sex. All in all it is a really funny movie, and even though it takes a while getting there, we get the ending we all want. The ruder nuder version is poor, as it just has a naked man and woman superimposed over the movie at various points, for no reason, although there are some odd added scenes that are decent. If you see this DVD, Id advise you to watch the proper version first, as afterwards you will probably just watch the extended version once, and then not bother with it again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Comedy, 7 May 2009
By Mr. T. Evans "Tombo The Great" (Worthing, near brighton, in the UK) - See all my reviews

My goodness, this is so so much better then 'My Best Friend's Girl'. I didn't think i could get over the sheer horror of 'My Best Friend's Girl', and thought i might be put of teen comedies for life. Until i saw this gem.
A brilliant script, funny characters, jokes, appropriate acting and light hearted directing make a superb comedy to watch with your girlfriend/boyfriend.
I enjoyed it, and hope you will too...

5 out of 5!!!
