From Amazon.co.uk

The four glitziest ladies ever to hit Manhattan as a single force--Carrie, Samantha, Miranda, and Charlotte--are back, fabulous as ever, in Sex and the City 2. They may be older, and even a little wiser, but the pulls of love, lust, careers, and a pair of well-turned stilettos are still the focus of this Fab Four. As the women gamely face the prospect of aging--children, menopause, glass ceilings, and, in Carrie's opinion a fate worse than death--domesticity--they still manage to sparkle with the banter and great outfits that made the HBO series and the first film such hits. Sex and the City 2 opens with Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Samantha (Kim Cattrall), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), and Charlotte (Kristin Davis) at the wedding of two of the foursome's favorite gay male friends, Stanford (Willie Garson) and Anthony (Mario Cantone). The wedding itself pulls out all the stops--in the true spirit of Sex and the City--and is one of the highlights of the film. From the no-holds-barred décor, including live swans, to the gay men's chorus singing show tunes while the guests arrive, the event is on the far side of over the top. As the guests settle into their seats, Miranda whispers, "Could this wedding be any gayer?" and as if on command, out comes Liza Minnelli, playing herself, to officiate. (Minnelli's performance is unexpectedly splendid, and her "wedding song" will wow all her fans--gay, straight, married, single.) Yet beneath the luscious glamour and the really bad hats (oh, Carrie, you should have resisted that harlequin feathered crown), the heroines are struggling with the not-so-glamorous realities of their lives. Charlotte and Harry (the always delightful and dependable Evan Handler) have two demanding young daughters--and a nanny from Ireland whose bra-less voluptuousness puts new meaning in the phrase "Irish spring," and who may be threatening their marriage. Miranda, ever the focused career gal, is getting nowhere fast at her law firm. And Carrie, now married to Mr. Big (Chris Noth), is chafing at the cozy staying-in and lying-low that she thinks spell death to romance. (It should be noted that vixen Samantha is still game for walking on the wild side. At the wedding she meets a handsome straight guy and asks him what he does for a living. "I lay concrete," he says. Samantha: "That sounds promising.") And for once there are no easy, glib answers to the real-life problem of the four stars, and Sex and the City 2 lets the characters actually grow up, at least a little. Which doesn't mean their fashions aren't fabulous. The film is also chock-a-block with great cameos, including Miley Cyrus and Penélope Cruz. And longtime fans of the TV series will be happy to hear that Smith Jerrod (Jason Lewis), Samantha's onetime flame, and Aidan (John Corbett), who once stole Carrie's heart, also make appearances. Sex and the City 2 is frothier than a shaken bottle of Champagne, and goes down as smoothly as a couple of appletinis. So fans, drink up! --A.T. Hurley

Product Description

A fun, adventurous romp: Sex and the City 2 brings it all back and more as Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda take another bite out of The Big Apple and beyond, carrying on with their busy lives and loves in a sequel that truly sparkles. What happens after you say "I do"? Life is everything the ladies ever wished it to be, but it wouldn't be Sex and the City if life didn't hold a few more surprises, this time in the form of an exotic adventure where the party never ends and there's something mysterious around every corner. It's an escape that comes exactly at the right moment for the four friends, who are finding themselves in and fighting against the traditional roles of marriage, motherhood and more. After all, sometimes you just have to get away with the girls.

1.0 out of 5 stars It saddens me how bad this film is. 4 Jan 2011
By Amy
Format:DVD
Firstly, like many people, I was a huge fan of the original Sex and the City series. I have the box set and have watched it numerous times. I equally enjoyed the first movie and was therefore excited for the second movie.

What a huge disappointment. Fancy (and somewhat ridiculous) clothes do not make a movie.

The plot of the movie is basically poor Carrie Bradshaw, after finally getting married to Mr Big she is stuck in a rut. They have this fabulous apartment full of designer clothes and both have ridiculously well paid jobs. But boring old Mr Big wants a TV in the bedroom! And he doesn't want to attend movie premieres with vapid people! And he wants to stay in for dinner! So Carrie has a moan and then when a book reviewer calls her out on her bull crap, her and the ladies head of to Abu Dhabi. Queue lots of ignorance about Middle Eastern culture and some embarrassing scenes topped off with ridiculous clothes. Charlotte is afraid her hubby is cheating on her with the bra-less nanny, Miranda has quit her job because her boss doesn't like her and Samantha is the same old Samantha. Also, poor Charlotte is having a hideous time because as a full time Mum with a full time Nanny, she is finding it very difficult raising her two children in the Fifth Avenue apartment.

The film is basically offensive to anyone who watches it. They seem to have forgotten their audience and why the TV series was so popular. Yes viewers loved the fashion aspect of the show, but it was mainly the story of four women in a big city looking for love that captured the viewers attention. Carrie moaning about having to stay in for dinner whilst millions of people are struggling in the current world wide economy just angered me.

1.0 out of 5 stars My eyes are bleeding 11 April 2011
By sp
Format:DVD
Like many other reviewers on here, I loved the TV series and the first film. They were funny, observant and great entertainment. This film, however, is none of these. It is atrocious.

From the outset, it is buttock clenching stuff. The wedding between Anthony and Stanford is just awful with a cameo from Liza (with a zee) Minelli "singing". Awful stuff. It doesn't get any better.

The "girls" (I use this word advisedly) are all now a bit older and they look it. They are all far too thin and this makes them look drawn and haggard and for a franchise that is really all about looks and clothes, this is not good. They go on a jolly to the middle east where there are the usual cliches about burkhas, etc etc. For four supposed women of the world not to know about this mode of dress is highly unbelievable. Embarrassing really. Carrie and Big seem to be having a bit of spat about him staying in every night (well, he is nearly 60) and she's not happy so off she pops with the "girls" only to meet old love Aiden in a market. What are the chances, eh? Miranda quits her job (as you do on a whim) but can afford to go on holiday. Charlotte is having problems with her two children despite having a full time nanny in tow. She also does her baking in a vintage Valentino skirt (as you do). And as for Samantha, for a character who was funny, independent and sassy, she is now just a dirty old woman. Oh, and there's a scene where the four of them get up and do karaoke. Actually, I admit I fast forwarded this bit due to my own embarrassment for them.

This is a disappointment in the extreme. There is an extra DVD with stuff about the making of. Michael Patrick King (producer, etc) waxes lyrical as if he was making War and Peace.

1.0 out of 5 stars Awful 3 Dec 2010
Format:DVD
Loved the first film, hated this. Not funny, not interesting, script was dire, some scenes were so desperate it was embarrassing to watch, the acting from all the characters gave me the feeling that they would all rather have been somewhere else, in fact I thought overall it was all quite depressing. Shame.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing 20 Aug 2011
Format:Blu-ray
What a shame that this film is nothing to do with the original characters of Sex and The City. The essence of the characters, flavour of the show most of us love, the fun and realism of their lives is totally lost here. Viewing the `extras' disc reflect this as during an interview with SJP all they talk about is the lavish sets, clothes, and other vacuous things. To sum it all up, there's nothing wrong with glamour, but for carrie to step out into a Abu Dhabi market with a long, flowing silk Couture dress and fancy high heels is absurd. Sadly the show is all about a romantic image that is not Sex and The City.

This is just terrible. A tedious and slow moving script with a predictable storyline.
It seemed like they padded out the first hour and a half with dresses (which a lot of the time looked like fancy dress), posing and plush hotels,
then the last 15 minutes was slapstick although more interesting than what had come before.
Would not recommend it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Sex and the Flump 26 April 2011
Format:DVD
Possibly the worst movie going' All based around four women who were moaning about how crap their lives were, the same life they had wished for for god knows how long' Charlotte can't handle her children and is constantly worrying about her husband cheating on her, Samantha can't handle the thought of losing her `urge' so is popping pills left, right and centre which I think degrades the phrase of `growing old naturally'. Moreover, Carrie, do not get me started. Cheating on her husband in a new country with her ex boyfriend. Farfetched or what??
Girls, sorry, Women. Women would love to have the life you want.
Oh, and Miranda. She was there for the prop. I have forgotten what her story line was.
Out of ten, I rate this two. Only women who live in New York who cannot handle the fabulous life style should watch this. Get a tip or two.
