Very, very good., 1 Dec 2008
This book is gender neutral, so either a man or a woman can read it. It's got a lot of information about sex in it but doesn't solely concentrate on the shame issues or what-have-you. This is a really good guide that anyone (most) could benefit from. I also liked (for men)
Sex Machine: A Man's Guide to What Really Pleases a Woman in Bed.

This review is from: The Sex Book (Hardcover)
Finally a book that doesn't put sex, shame and therapy into the same basket.
I read avidly - first I skimmed all the quotes from other people talking about their sex lives, then I started again from the beginning, and was so fascinated I unabashedly read it on the train.
I certainly recognised everything I'd ever done from adolescence onwards but then became a voyeur of all the things that other people were doing.
There's nothing this book can't sort out sexually and with no judgement, just information and quotes from all quarters: Doctors, organisations, prostitutes and the general public.
Visually, it looks so good, you won't want to hide it under the mattress, with brilliant illustrations that make sex into glamourous pop art inside a pink and orange cover.
There's no hippy drippy 'Joy of Sex' factor. It's more 'we know sex is a joy, here's everything you might ever need to know.'
I personally know a lot more about STI s and contraception which is pretty vital to me. The rest of it I may never need, but then, never say never.

Sex Without Smut, 20 July 2009
Suzi Godson's 'The Sex Book' is an eminently informative book about sex, everything you need to know about sex and more. It is attractively set out with clear diagrams and detailed explanations and descriptions. This book is not afraid to consider all forms of sexual activity and gives clear instructions on 'how to do it' as well as any downside issues. This is all done in a warm matter of fact tone and there is no hint of prudery. Nor does it venture into the titillating erotic genre. I would use this book as a reference book but to be fair there is more to read about than I expected. I think this is the best book that I have read about sex and would reccommend it even to more experience sexual practitioners. You may be pleasantly surprised and from this book widen your sexual activities to greater pleasure and fulfillment.
