Product Description

This is a book of colorful and imaginative children’s clothes to sew, designed with kids in mind. The authors are designers and owners of two popular pattern companies for kid’s clothes—Farbenmix and Studio Tantrum, known in the sewing community for their creativity, versatility, and fit. This collection of exclusive patterns, included with the book, offers step-by-step instruction for making boys’ and girls’ clothing with a variety of fabric styles and decorative embellishment—including embroidery, patchwork, and trims. The patterns for pants, tops, skirts, and dresses include variations for long and short hemlines and sleeves, various necklines, and adjustable lengths. The patterns are sized from 18 months to kid’s size 12.

Not your Normal sewing book.
Beautiful Bright clothes full of colour, frills, twirls and appliques
Includes 10 full sized Patterns that you do have to add your own seam allownce as you do with most european patterns. so a great value in patterns alone.
Patterns include
Imke shirt,Riviera Leggings and short,Brooklyn Tank top,Brooklyn shrug,Insa skirt,Dortje Trousers,Avalon Jacket,
Silver Lake windbreaker (Jacket), Feliz Party dress, Manhattan Occasion Dress.

If you have come across Farbenmix patterns, studio Tantrum/Fledge then you will have some idea about the Patterns in this book....
The sewing instructions are quite basic but give so much room for your imagination!
Not very much for boys (i think 2 patterns )
so if you love to make clothing thats so differant to what most patterns here in the uk offer then you are in for a treat with this book...
I personally LOVE these patterns and the Fabrics :0)
(search farbenmix for GREAT Gallery pic of these Patterns and lots more )

My daughter 2 and nieces 4 and 5 adored the clothes in this book. Not for shrinking violet children or mums: personally I loved the colourful clothes. The book sparks a whole host of ideas which sends your mind running off on flights of fancy of glorious riotous unadulterated colour and fun. It is more of a dip in for inspiration, rather than a real learn to sew book ( and thats fine -it gives tips and hints where it can) but my goodness what inspiration!. The patterns are based on European tradition where you trace off and add your own seam allowances, and it has a variety of projects included- more for girls than boys (though they are not left out). The text is clearly written, with wit and the book is encouraging rather than merely showing off the clearly talented authors work. This would be a perfect mothers day gift for any mummy who loves sewing.

Just as a P.S. I have made up some of these clothes in more classic fabric combinations (velvet combined with liberty prints) The patterns have worked well and the look although totally different, they were lovely and much admired- especially the fluted hem jacket.

Love this book! It's full of gaudy, frilled, flounced, fabulous stuff and their fabric selection is genius. Totally inspirational and so different to the usual subdued, safe kids stuff. Some of the clothes look like they've come straight out of the dressing-up box so if you want safe or subtle, it's not for you, but if like me you love a riot of colour and texture then this is the book!
The projects are: a hooded top (unisex), leggings with ruffles on the bottom, a strappy top, shrug, double-layered flared skirt, bell-bottom trousers/capris with knee detail, a flared jacket which can be made reversible, a windbreaker coat (unisex), a double layered party dress with wide straps and a cap sleeved flared dress with lace-up detail to the back (Snow White-ish). All of them are wearable although for me the winners are the skirt, the bell-bottoms and the party dress. The latter can be also made into a long skirt by omitting the straps, also presumably a shorter skirt by omitting some of the length. Worth buying for those alone. There's a good section on measuring your child for the perfect fit, adjustments and making a mannequin to your child's measurements. Full size, simple patterns on good quality paper with six size lines for each. The age range of the patterns is 18-24m, up to age 11-12.
I have lots of craft and sewing books and this is my first review because out of all of them, it's the first I have ever felt really inspired by.

Great choice of patterns, more for girls than boys. However, note that the patterns do NOT have seam allowances, these need to be added before cutting out. Read more
