Book Description

25 May 2007
Don’t let old-fashioned patterns hem you in! You’ll be amazed by what you can sew with no patterns at all. Fun fabrics that inspire you, a basic sewing machine, an adventurous spirit are all you need to get started. Create a new wardrobe that reminds you just how much fun sewing can be!

It is possible to make all of the skirts in this book with a few basic sewing skills. Even if you have sewn your entire life, you can still find fun and inspiration in these patternless skirts and stylish embellishments. While none of the skirts are difficult to make, they have been arranged from easiest to easy, with the easiest skirts at the beginning of each chapter. All 16 designs can be created from scratch in a few hours so no matter how hectic your life is you’ll be sure to find time to sew a simple, fun skirt that is, most importantly, stress free.

The first chapter will take you through the basic sewing skills along with the equipment you will need in addition to a sewing machine; needles, pins, threads, fabrics, waistline fasteners, tape measure, pinking shears and the list foes on. You will learn the four most important words: selvage, grainline, bias and nap and what these mean. You will then be shown how to create a wide variety of skirts from the classic A-line to layered skirts, wraparounds to easy elegance.

Find the inspiration that you’ve been waiting for, to use all the beautiful fabric that you’ve been holding on to or longing to buy in this beautiful book. Define your personality with a wearable, tailored skirt designed to your unique style and shape.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant 31 Dec 2010
This book has finally helped me take the plunge and make my own skirts. It takes you through step by step and if you want to start off with the more simple ones you can, and then move on to (gulp) putting in a zip ... Trust me, it's not as tricky as you think, I don't know why I've left it so long. It's a great book for the beginner, written in plain English and with a sense of humour. The only downside is that I am going to need a bigger wardrobe!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fab 1 Dec 2011

I ordered this book after reading the goood reviews it had already received. I have not been disappointed. I have already made one skirt and it has helped me alter another quite dramatically. I am on the look out for new fabric to make the next masterpiece. There is step by step instructions on almost everything you need to know from making a pattern (or not) to completing the finishing touches. I am a novice and think its an ideal book to help those who want to be a bit different or to make a more unique item.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource! 24 Mar 2010
I'm so incredibly excited by this book!
Being a bit of an awkward shape ('pear shaped is an understatement!') making my own clothes seems like a great idea so I've bought several books on the subject hoping to revamp and expand my wardrobe (Whilst improving my sewing skills too!) This book was by far the best out of the ones that I purchased.

I'm one of those people who really hates patterns and I get far too impatient, flapping around with bits of paper, desperate to get stitching - so I was even more pleased to find that I won't need patterns to make my own skirts!

The book explains how to take your own measurements and make a variety of skirts based on them. (Perfect for my waist/hip problem!) Its laid out clearly and makes the process look incredibly easy.

I'm sure my wardrobe will be looking fresh in no time!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book With Great Guidance! 14 Dec 2011
My hubby got me this book on Amazon around 2 months ago and finally had the chance to leave a review for it. The authoress did a great job, I must say! A splendid book for creating your very own masterpiece!Encourages one to be have the full confidence and brings out the creativeness in you!All that is needed is a simple calculation to start things. I've always been a great fan of skirts since young. To finally come across a useful book such as this one (focusing ONLY on skirts) with great help is a delightful thing for a newbie like me! Nothing is more rewarding than knowing yourself that you are wearing a skirt, specially tailored to your very own fitting, made by you!!! I've made one so far (simply because am also busy picking up on other kind of sewing projects) but planning to sew more lovely skirts with my very own unique touch to it, in future :-))

1.0 out of 5 stars very disapointed 14 Jan 2013
By Candy
Was looking for some new inspiration for a new year project so got this from local libary. Glad i did and hadnt forked out money for it, as its so old fashioned and i dont mean in a vintage way as i love Vintage clothing. The skirts are just awlful and not much difference between styles, just made with different material :(

A bit disappointed by the old-fashioned look of these designs. Also, there is no help with ideas for linings and fabrics.
