This is a good book for looking at basic techniques of creating a wedding dress but do not buy it for ideas on design, it is purely to learn technique.
I made my own dress after only making a few garments from bought patterns, this was one of the books I purchased and I found I didn't refer to it that much at all. I would recommend three books if you're making your own dress. 1 for ideas and inspiration 'wedding dress sourcebook' by pavilion. It has mordern designs to give you ideas and explains which dresses work well for which shapes, telling you what different cuts are etc. and more importantly plenty of colour photos. Even if you decide making your own dress is too scary it will help you in buying a shop bought dress too. after that look at websites/mags for ideas. 2 is 'Bridal Couture' by Susan Khalje. This is alot better at explaining techniques with plenty of colour photos explaining exactly how to make each component of dress. It was what I used the most to learn how to sew couture, a must for anyone trying. I'd buy it over this book, but again you won't get any inspiration from the dresses, it is purely technique. The third if you can get hold of it is 'Vogue Sewing Revised and Updated' this is hard to get at the minute but again it will teach you sewing techniques, even the very basics. With that and 'Bridal Couture' you should have all you'll need to know.

By all means buy this book, it won't come in wrong but there are better quality books that give you the same and better information.

This book covers some interesting basic information and is very much like a text book you might have had at school. All the illustrations are in black and white and the designs seem quite 'old fashioned'. 'Choosing the most flattering style of wedding gown' is a good chapter but the rest of this small book is functional rather than inspiring.

Don't be put off by the dated images for this soft cover book the instructions would cover any possible design you could come up with and is not really effected by the change in fashions. The size is smaller than I expected at approx A5 but is packed with all you need to know on how to create a bridal outfit to your own designs. I am an advanced dress maker and can make my own patterns but I bought the book for the section on lace. With French and Italian lace being so expensive I wanted to make sure I would not make any mistakes and would get the most out of the material and work it to the design I want. In particular it details how work large areas of lace over skirts, and bodices accentuating the scalloped hem. There is also a section on veils too which I found really helpful. Totally recommended.
