I thought Id take the one negative review available when I purchased the Sevylor Canyon with a pinch of salt especially since this canoe look and sounded so good and was at a price that didnt make it a massive investment for a casual user.
How wrong could I be! After one quick 10 minute test which was great fun and left us wanting more, my brother and I undertook a more lengthy trip along our local river. With no wind and the water like a mill pond it couldnt have been more idyllic. We paddled off casually (paddles, lifejackets, pump bought separately) waving like grinning kids to our girlfriends on the bank. We disappeared around the first bend and paddled for 20 minutes. At this point I noticed a little water around our toes which we concluded was just a little splashback.
10 minutes later our better halves were astounded/highly amused to see us appear around the corner paddling like lunatics as the water gushed in to the boat and lapped around the family jewels! On further inspection the seams were allowing the water to pour in.
How this can be sold is beyond me. If we had travelled any further or had been using it in the sea we could have found ourselves in serious trouble.
We've since upgraded to the Colorado model which is much more substantial with a heavy duty PVC bottom well sealed and taped, plus the seats are more supportive with additional storage pouches. If you buy any canoe/kayak I strongly recommend you stay away from the Canyon and opt for the Colorado model.
But Im not going to give any cast iron guarantees that our replacement doesnt mean a lifetime as submariners!!
