Book Description

The author of this book is a survivor of emotional abuse. The techniques in the book may not be for everyone. It is the opinion of one person who has experienced verbal and psychological abuse first-hand, combined with portions of interviews with other victims of emotional abuse. You are encouraged to further educate yourself on emotional abuse and, if needed, seek counseling in order to deal with your abuse. You are also encouraged to use the margins and open areas of this manual to take notes concerning your personal situation.

Unlike its predecessor, the LETTERS edition (edition 2) of SEVERING THE CONNECTION: An Instruction Manual for Escaping Emotional Abuse focuses less on the reasons why abusers abuse, and more on the steps you need to take to leave that abuse behind. The new edition features letters which illustrate different aspects of emotional abuse, moments of realization, and steps taken to end it once and for all.

4.0 out of 5 stars Useful book 5 Jan. 2014

This book is very concise and to the point. It gives a no nonsense approach to recognising emotional abuse and the impact it has which is very reassuring as one of the primary effects if EA is that the victim doubts herself or himself and is impotent in making the necessary changes to make the damaging relationship end. An improvement would be to focus upon the practical aspects of leaving when a victim has children. Contact is mentioned but not how to negotiate the home circumstances of the children which is crucial when making such a huge decision to leave.

This book tells it how it is. As you read it you see your own situation described and explained. This really "tells it like it is" and gives practical straightforward advice. Understanding my situation helped me change it and relieved me of a lot of the confusion I was experiencing. Would recommend this book.

I enjoyed reading this but I feel tat it could have benefit Ted from a little more depth, and a little more analysis of the relationship aspect of verbal abuse.

I am not sure about this book. Some things I agree on and some things I don't. My advice get advice from a domestic abuse support group if you do feel you being abused.
