Product Description

When former soldier Dan Tyler wakes up in a strange room on a bed covered in blood, with no idea how he got there, he thinks he's stepped into someone else's nightmare. But he's wrong. This is reality. The corpse beside him is Leah, a girl he's met recently. And it gets worse.

As he staggers from the bed the phone rings, and a voice tells him to press play on the room's DVD machine. The film shows Tyler killing Leah. Then he's told to go to an address in East London where he's to deliver a briefcase and await further instructions.

There's no way out. The evidence against him looks rock-solid. Tyler's heading into terrible danger. If he's to survive the next 12 hours, he must find out who really murdered Leah - and why.

Severed 13 Jun 2009
By book fan VINE™ VOICE
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I've just finished reading this and I couldn't put it down, none stop action that never lets up. I would place Simon Kernick somewhere between Lee Child and Harlen Coban for the writing style. The story starts with Tyler waking up in bed with the headless corpse of his girl friend next to him with no idea of where he is or any of the events leading up to this and a tape is there waiting for him which shows that he is the one who killed her. This seems impossible to him because he had no reason to kill her and he was madly in love with her too. So begins a frantic race over the next twenty four hours to find out what's really going on,the words just fly off the page and you won't be able to read them fast enough as Tyler finds he has been set up for murder, from the first page to the last the tale moves with the momentum of a runaway train with thrills and plenty of violence along the way. With not one wasted word and chapters that blend seamlessly into each other this book is a pure adrenalin rush I totally loved it and would recommend it to any fan of thrillers. Great entertainment.

I started reading this and from the very first page found it almost impossible to put down. The graphic descriptions mean it's not a book for everyone, but certainly if you like real-life gangster stories with plenty of twists and turns and a fast pace you will enjoy this book. Although the ending was fairly tame in comparison to the rest of the plot I felt it worked extremely well. I've just purchased two more of Simon Kernick's books and am hoping they're as good as this one.

disappointing
It was a good story, held back by the author's terrible writing. There is no need to describe the physical appearance of every character. Read more
