...dreamscapes and atmospheres...,
By
This review is from: Seven Visions (Audio CD)
Having recently reviewed the reissued "Hindsight", Mr Hind kindly sent through a copy of "Seven Visions", a collection of 'electroacoustica 1991 - 2000'. Now I was verrry impressed with "Hindsight", so slapped this one into the CD player with much anticipation. And it's another goodie.
Despite the disparate recording times and experiences, the music acts as a whole, moving you through different dreamscapes and atmospheres, each provoking self induced thoughts and images on to the listening experience. Hence the title. For added pleasure write down your own feelings before reading the extensive liner notes where the composer details his own feelings and memories of the music. See how many coincide. Make it a fun game for all the family! It is actually more minimalistic than "Hindsight" and the tag of 'electroacoustica' is very appropriate given the instrumentation used. Now, I first listened to it on a bright, sunny, cold, crisp Scottish winters day and, to be honest, it didn't stick at first. Second time out, the headphones were on, the fire was flickering, the night was dark, and it all made a lot more sense. For if ever music was designed to augment moods, then this is it. The seven visions on offer work their way dreamily through your consciousness and with my spacerock background, it was the full on synths of 'Slumber' and 'Rain' that caught my imagination most. Those of you with a Reichian bent to your listening may find 'Cosmos (part 1)' more up your street. Either way, it's an accomplished and challenging album well worthy of your attention.
