SEVEN PILLARS OF WISDOM - A TRIUMPH is the autobiographical account of the experiences of British soldier T. E. Lawrence ("Lawrence of Arabia") while serving with rebel forces during the Arabian Revolt against the Ottoman Turks.
The extraordinary breadth and variety of his activities and associations, and his ability to describe them vividly in writing, earned him international fame as Lawrence of Arabia, a title popularised by the 1962 film based on his life.
THE SEVEN PILLARS OF WISDOM has been called "a novel traveling under the cover of autobiography," capturing Lawrence's highly personal and exciting version of the historical events described in the book.

Seven Pillars of Wisdom, The Complete 1922 Text
This is the first publication of Lawrence's earlier and fuller version of Seven Pillars, one third longer than the revised abridgement that he issued to subscribers in 1926, which is the text published for general circulation after his death. In addition to the two volumes of text there is a companion book of illustrations,152 pages, which includes the original colour portraits commissioned by Lawrence for the book, and a selection of his war photographs.

This first edition is limited to 752 sets. 80 sets have been bound in full goatskin, and are accompanied by a proof set of the Seven Pillars portraits, and a parallel-text showing intermediate and final texts of the Introduction.

A magnificent, thorough and complete '7 Pillars' using the fuller 1922 Oxford text, from one of the foremost authorities on the the enigmatic Lawrence: Jeremy Wilson.

The Seven Pillars "rough draft"

As I pointed out elsewhere, this 1922 Oxford text of Seven Pillars of Wisdom, is Lawrence's privately printed (only 8 copies!) first published version, for the purpose of sending to various people involved in the Arab Revolt for their corrections and/or approval. As it is, without additional proofing, this version is of historical interest as Lawrence's relatively uncensored telling of what happened. If you are looking for a good read, use the 1935 edition or Lawrence's abridged version under the name "Revolt in the Desert."

This edition of this extraordinary work of literature is a travesty. It has not been proofread for typesetting errors, for textual errors, for anything, as far as I am able to tell. This edition SHOULD be unavailable; it is a shameful and cheap attempt to profit unjustly from an extraordinary literary achievement accomplished by someone else. I was shocked and saddened to see such shoddy work, and dismayed to see it on Amazon.
