Product Description

Jack Bruce and Robin Trower performing live for the first time! The news spread like wildfire, the sensation was perfect. The legendary Cream bassist and singer, all his life striking new paths in blues and jazzrock, and the immensely talented guitarist of Procol Harum fame, who left the chains of 5-minute-pop behind him very early and never followed any mainstream cliches. Both musicians have written history in rock for more than 40 years.

It was at the beginning of the 80s when they first worked together in a studio producing two remarkable records (B.L.T. 1981 and Truce 1982), but the fans had to wait for another 27 years for another meeting of the two titans: It was not until last year that Seven Moons reunited them. The Veterans had formed a power trio; together with drummer Gary Husband (Level 42, Gary Moore, John McLaughlin), they recorded new material, fine bluesrock painted in psychedelic colours und wonderful sounds – a record transporting the living spirit of the creative seventies in to the third millennium.

Seven Moons is the third joint venture of two aged musicians – and it is their masterpiece. A few months later a fansite announced: "Bruce, Trower & Husband to take Seven Moons into orbit! For a few nights only, Robin and Jack will get to play live together for the first time ever in late February 2009." And this is the result. The set even includes a few tunes from Bruce´s famous catalogue – Cream hits “Sunshine Of Your Love” and “White Room“have been remade into something very special and very different here.

Jack Bruce has clearly found a groove that he has been well into since the Cream reunion: Royal Albert Hall: London May 2-3-5-6 2005. This is clearly the setting that he excels in. You should also check out the excellent but largely overlooked Around the Next Dream which was a kind of Cream Lite with Gary Moore occupying the Eric Clapton position. That assessment of that project does a huge disservice to the music and musicians by the way but that is how many considered ti at the time.

Robin Trower's post Procol Harum work passed me by a bit, not because I did not like it but just because my attention was elsewhere. Here Trower demonstrates what a fine guitarist he really is. I guess those who have followed Trower's career more closely than I and who are less familiar with Bruce's work will probably consider that Bruce gets too much of the centre stage here but I must confess that I really like this album

The album Seven Moons was made up of Bruce Trower songs which form the basis of this live set, here however there are a number of Cream songs: Sunshine of Your Love, White Room & Politician which round things off nicely.

Some misinformed people have complained that Jack Bruce is an example of an ageing musician who has lost the dynamism of his earlier years. I totally disagree, sure there is not the frenetic playing of

"Seven Moons" is a wonderful album, and we have to be grateful for this chance to hear the songs live. And the live versions only underline the strenght and quality of the compositions.

Jack Bruce, despite his many serious healthproblems, sings with passion and is in a lot better voice than on the legendary Cream reunions ('05). But his bassplaying is certainly a far cry from the expressive and excessive madness of bassvirtuosity he displayed in his youth. Gary Husband handles the drums in expert fashion, as one would expect from this wonderful musician, though his drumming sounds a bit 'stiff' especially in the Cream-classics.

But the real star of the show is Robin Trower, who might never have played better than here. His hendrix-influenced playing really soaring to the heights with immense intensity.

The days when Jack and Robin made musical history may be over, but here they show that they still make relevant music. Hard to find a better powertrio around.

This cd evidences two great musicians and a very talented drummer producing one of those stellar performances that make you wish you'd been in the audience. Simply brilliant! Jack's voice remains a remarkable instrument despite all of his serious health problems in recent years-pretty fair bass playing too-and Robin's never been anything but terrific!

I have been listening to the amazing Mr Bruce, with many bands, live and on every possible form of media for 50 years. This album does nothing to enhance his reputation, no matter how much of a fan I may be.
I've always thought that Robin Trower was a "B-List" guitar copyist; this plodding, corny, erratic set confirms my feelings.
Jack is allowed a few missteps as one of the 20th and 21st centuries' truly major talents. This is one of them.
