To my knowledge, this classic period thriller was last aired some time in the 90s on Channel 4. I taped it and then waited for a VHS (and more recently a DVD release). Seemed like it was never going to happen...
I watch this every so often, just for pleasure. None of your high-tech cgi needed here, and I hope they are never daft enough to do a remake.

Barry Jones is Prof Willingdon - the scientist 'on the edge' - being sought by Andre Morrell as DSup Folland of Special Branch, assisted by Hugh Cross (Willingdon's assistant).

Oh, and they have 'seven days' to find him before London is in big trouble. At 'Noon'. You get the idea.

It features a tense plot, and some wonderful observations on 1950's London. When else could the postie walk up to the door of No.10 Downing Street without a Policeman in sight?

One of the minor characters is Mrs.Peckitt, played by a young(ish) Joan Hickson.

**Note this applies to the disc released on 22 February 2010**

Well, with the reissue of SEVEN DAYS TO NOON it's finally possible to own a copy in the CORRECT AR i.e. 1.33:1 for a film made in 1950. At least Optimum eventually put their initial mistake right - just make sure to order the new reissue (check the release date) of 22 February 2010.

As for the movie, excellent of course.

This is one of the must see British sci-fi films of the post war era, with more suspense than sci-fi. The acting performances in the cameo roles include a superb "Goldie" by Olive Sloan, as a good-time girl who has slightly gone to seed (but still has a definite allure) and Joan Hickson as the appalling landlady "Mrs. Peckett" juggling a fag and whose grubby rooms you know just have to smell of cat. The views of a vanished London and it's inhabitants are priceless. Imagine a tube ticket for a penny halfpenny! The idea of the suitcase sized fission weapon still haunts us today although the enemies have changed, and all shot in black & white with wonderful contrast and atmosphere. So much for the film. The quality of the print as the other review implies is poor. A load it up and digitise it job. The materials which accompany the main feature are non-existent really. Even the dust jacket has the professors name wrong. Who was supervising this production? It is still worth getting though, and hopefully there is an original print out there somewhere which some more talented person will take care to translate into a modern medium for us all to enjoy.

Thought provoking film
A great thriller as well as being a prescient vision of future potential "terrorist" attacks. Suitcase sized nuclear device anyone? And a vivid time capsule of 1950 London. Read more
