This little booklet does just one thing - and does it well. It gets you going with C/C++ on Eclipse with CDT.

With something as complex as Eclipse it's all too easy to fall at the first hurdle - can't get all the bits to install properly. This book is a step by step guide (with screen shots) to setting up the IDE on Windows, Mac and Linux. I set things up on Linux (fedora 18) and it was unbelievably smooth.

Last time I tried to do something like this, a couple of years ago, I couldn't get the thing working, and eventually just gave up - it wasn't worth the hassle. This time I was up and looking at a console saying 'Hello World' within ten minutes or so.

If, like me you are new to using Eclipse, then I highly recommend this booklet.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cut through a lot of trial and error 26 Nov 2012

I rarely purchase books of this sort. Almost always, I can figure out how to setup and install software, given enough time and determination. I thought that setting up Eclipse for C++ would be a piece of cake, especially considering the number of times I've set it up for java on different machines over the years.

No such luck, and I had a deadline looming.

So I spent the 99 cents and was up and running in minutes. The instructions were clear and concise. Everything I needed to know was there, and nothing I didn't need.

So if you can't get your CDT up and running the first time, and you spend more than 20 - 30 minutes trying to figure it out, spend the 99 cents and let Max Berger walk you through.

This was not the greatest but if you want some kind of a hand in setting up CDT it is useful.
Nothing you cannot figure out yourself.
