I found this book to be a well researched, detailed and analytical guide to setting up a business. Starting at a very basic, common sense level, the book provides a step by step procedure from the initial germ of an idea about becoming self employed through to the practicalities of each stage, the setting up of the enterprise and finally the maintaining of a successful therapy business.

This book is an excellent `must have' guide for anyone with little or no business experience. It is also a useful checklist for those with more experience, who may only need to skim through the first few chapters, to ensure all bases have been covered.

In a thought provoking way, the book encourages the reader to understand the workings of the therapy market and to know their own place in that market - a vital requirement if the business is to flourish. It is easy to read and understand and offers a contemporary list of resources and website links to provide further support. As well as `holding your hand' through each phase of development, the author also offers the chance of individual support for those with particular issues by providing contact details and promising a response with personalised advice.

Although this book is specifically directed at those setting up a therapy business, many of the steps are transferable using a language and ideas common to all other self employed businesses.

As a woman leading my own successful business I can confirm that the advice given in this guide is sound and invaluable. I highly recommend it to anyone currently in the process of setting up their own business and those still in the contemplation stage.

This book is aimed at anyone who has undertaken a therapy qualification and is considering going into business. As the title suggests the book is very readable as it is broken down into key stages as your ideas of your new venture develop. A vast range of information is included to be considered by you as a potential business man or women, but it is done in a very engaging style. It is realistic without being overwhelming.

I found the chapter on the regulations and licences needed in business particularly helpful, emphasizing the legal issues to be fufilled. The chapter on communication is also excellent at exploring the internet as an essential marketing resource. The book also contains useful weblinks.

The book encourages you to question yourself and develop greater self awareness in the skills you need to be a success in business as well as a great therapist. When reading the book you feel the author really wants you to succeed in your business.
I wish this book had been available when I finished my reflexology qualification!!

It worked for me! 23 July 2011
By JaneP
Format:Paperback
This book came to me at the perfect time. Within a month I'd called Revenue and Customs to declare myself self-employed. I love the straightforward layout of the material. The Contents page listing is clear and very easy to reference. Several times I went back to look for a specific nugget of information and I could always quickly find it. Each chapter is succinct and informative. Another great feature of this book is that Gill provides weblinks to specific sources of information so you can always access the current rules & regulations. This means you can trust the information in this book and not worry because it won't have gone out of date.
