Quite good really...,
By
This review is from: In Session with Peter Green: (Guitar Tab) (Paperback)
This book really is the erogenous zones of the beastie of your choice. The tab's are accurate and the cd is spot on as well, comprising a full run through (without vocals) of the song, followed by a guitar-less run through to practice or record yourself to, and then the solo section is slowed down, followed by a backing track to play to.Probably not for the green novice, but intermediate players will find lots of stuff to get their teeth into. If you like the blues this is a must buy. The songs included are: Black Magic Woman, Need Your Love So Bad, Albatross, Man Of The World, Watch Out and Merry Go Round.

Excellent - far better than the DVD alternative,

This review is from: In Session with Peter Green: (Guitar Tab) (Paperback)
There are two products on Amazon which allow you to study and learn Peter Green-style playing. Of the two (the other is a double DVD which comes without tab), this is by far the best. The notation, tab and associated CD tracks are excellently produced. The tracks featured are -
Black Magic Woman Need your love so bad Man of the world Albatross ... and the less well known but superb ... Watch out Merry go round For those wanting to explore and develop a PG-style soloing technique, the last two tracks are especially useful. The book contains a lot of additional tips and licks and is, in all respects, a thoroughly well thought out study of Peter Green's magical playing. The backing tracks let you practise not only the various compositions but also provide the basis for your own jamming and invention. Who could ask for more? As an adjunct, if you want to truly explore Peter Green's sound, it is worth looking for one particular guitar which, at the time of writing is being sold by Amazon affiliates for VERY reasonable prices (around £250 - £300). It is also generally available elsewhere. This is the Vintage V100 MRPGM 'Lemon Drop' which, as far as I know, is the only Les Paul type guitar which comes as standard with the reversed humbucker and out-of-phase wiring which gave PG's instrument that famous sound. The 'Lemon drop' is only available as a relic'd (distressed) instrument whose looks may not be to everyone's tastes - but the sound IS excellent. Look for it on Youtube as well. Hope that tip helps if you're a fan of Peter Green's original playing style.

Guitar hero,

This review is from: In Session with Peter Green: (Guitar Tab) (Paperback)
I bought this book in a pathetic attempt to sound like my all time guitar hero Peter Green. Needless to say I don't. That's not the fault of the book which is very good indeed. It is clearly laid out with excellent guitar tablature and a very helpful CD. I would recommend it.
