Good first music player for 3 year old +. - Bought this for my daughters 2 and 5, The 2 year old finds putting discs in a bit tricky, but loves the music all the same.

Bought as a Xmas present. Nice idea but the cds and player fell off the side of the book very quickly. The label on the cds rubbed off very quickly. Bright colourful book but not practical for small children.

Music Player Only - No Lyrics 20 Sept. 2010
By Carol Beede - Published on Amazon.com

Guess I should have taken the phrase Music Player literally when deciding to order. I was disappointed when my 2 year old granddaughter put the first cd in, pushed play and we heard the music only, no lyrics.

The book is colorful and the lyrics are printed inside, but if you want to hear the actual songs, don't waste your money.

New favorite book 29 Jun. 2010

My daughter loves this book. So much so that it has replaced her "go to" books for all daytime activities (she has a separate shelf for nighttime reading). This book comes with 4 discs and about 20 or so songs (some much long than others). Although she cannot read the lyrics yet, she loves to look at the pictures and has already learned which pages go with the corresponding song. It also teaches proper eye-hand coordination as she has had to learn how to place the disc in the player properly to get it to work. It will eat through some batteries, but they are easy enough to change. One con: no volume control. Still, highly recommended. THIS IS NOT A BOARD BOOK.

It's Fun...for a little while 31 Dec. 2011
By S Hatton - Published on Amazon.com
This book is not what I expected. My son (18 months) loves Sesame Street so he thinks the book is great. But the CDs don't have the words to the songs on them, just the music. So I have to sing all the songs to him (for much longer than I want to). He knows how to start/stop the music and change out the discs, but until he can read, I have to do all the singing. Not bad, just not as good as I wanted it to be.
Discs too hard for 2-year old dexterity. Annoying Music. 5 Nov. 2012
By The Two Hsus - Published on Amazon.com
My 2-year old is not able to put the discs in the player by himself because unlike a cd, there is a hole in the middle of the disc you have to slide down a stick in the middle of the player (kinda like a record player). But unlike a record player, the stick is flat on the top and round at the bottom and you have to match the hole in the disc perfectly to get the disc to work. Even after you do that the disc doesn't slide all the way down the stick to let you know for sure it's in, but instead it just wobbles loosely on top of that stick and the only way you know you did it right is by being able to close the lid.

After going through all this trouble, the "music" it plays is a major let-down. Wasn't actual songs like I'd hope. Wasn't even music with no words. The "music" was just different beep sounds arranged to sound vaguely like music. My dad who is not familiar with nursery rhymes at all, swore up and down that every disc had the same exact songs. The only reason I was only able to make out that there were different songs was because I was so familiar with them from my childhood. But even then it was hard to tell one song from another since it was just a lot of similar sounding beeping.

I only give this 2-stars instead of 1 because the book portion is nice with vibrant pictures although a board book instead of paper pages would be more durable in my opinion. Not that we need to worry about it's durability. I ended up returning it because it pissed my son off so much never getting the discs to work on his own.
DEFECTIVE 19 July 2012

I thought maybe it was a fluke that the reviews that stated one of the CD's songs were a duplicate of another, but this was also true with my book/CD. Too bad, because the songs that were omitted/not copied to a CD included the Sesame Street theme song. I'm not going to return this, either, because it's probably too much trouble, and my daughter is too young to operate the player. She just enjoys the songs that we do have. I was disappointed, though, that it is a defective product, and that only 4 Sesame Street songs are in the book. The rest are just popular children's songs. We have the Sesame Street 35 years of Songs from the Street, so I was hopeful that there might be some more...Ladybug Picnic, Everybody Sleeps, etc. are not part of this. You'll hear Rubber Duckie, People in the Neighborhood, and C is for Cookie. The Sesame Street theme song is in the book, but not copied to a CD. Hope that helps.
