Elmo's Letter Journey, a companion product to Elmo's Number Journey, is also appealing to all junior Sesame Street fans. Elmo travels through different 3-D landscapes peppered with large letters that your child must find, for example a space landscape, snowboarding down a mountain, and picking letters out of apple trees while jumping on a pogo stick! Elmo likes finding the right letters! He also gives you a few chances if you make the odd boo-boo... depending upon the level chosen: easy, medium and hard.
Upon completing the chosen levels, Elmo rewards the player with a bonus round that's just for fun involving helping Elmo to find the missing letter in words.
The package is a straightforward literacy learning tool, but does suffer some limitations : navigating the curly paths can be very hard to comprehend for a child already spatially aware - to follow a path bending off to the left Elmo merely has to be steered forwards and will turn along the direction of the curved path as a train follows a curve. The child may be confused by this unnatural steering, and will most likely choose to steer leftwards with the controller pad, with undesired results. This can be frustrating for both the child and parent until the child is better acquainted with the game. It can tend to be a little slow; subjectively we feel it's even a little slower than Elmo's Number Journey.
However, if your child is new to video consoles and/ or PC software, this may be beneficial by removing the need to steer, and the slow responses may help, too.
Overall, Elmo's Letter Journey is a fun and educational addition to a PlayStation collection. For the money, it is a worthwhile addition to the companion package Elmo's Number Journey.
