Product Description

If not now, when? If not us, whom? The role of youth in the transformation of society has been highlighted at all levels of development. Defying all odds and society's prejudices, young people are initiating actions to address: education, health care, poverty reduction, economic empowerment, skills development, environment protection, governance, human rights and democracy. The youth are undertaking actions for community good, while advocating policy changes and new policies that will facilitate sustainable development in their communities. But are the youth given their due recognition for the good courses they are involved in? Does the involvement of the young people contribute in any meaningful way to progress? Dabesaki shows in "Service My Country" that young people are actually contributing to the development of their societies, and that their role is not only necessary but critical for any meaningful progress to take place.

If I wasn't study International Development, and wasn't able to read English, I may not have a chance to have this book now. However, everyone including who can't speak English, would have a chance to know this man Dabesaki in near future because he would be very famous in the world. His passion, wisdom, courage and conviction will never end. This book is only the introduction of his long exciting and dynamic life. I strongly believe that people who are interested in Nigeria, Africa and Development studies would love this book, and anyone else would be surprised and get a energy by this book. Thank you Dabesaki, and I'm waiting for your next one!

'Service My Country' is an amazing motivational piece for young people in Africa and across the globe alike. Not only does it capture the various approaches and dimensions by which young people could serve as agents of change and contribute to development that concerns them; but it also provides stimulation for deep individual self-reflection. After reading this book, I was forced to ask my self if I have served my country enough.

The book captures in a simplistic, humorous and yet richly contextual way the dreams, ideas, passion, challenges, and progresses of a Nigerian youth (to which I believe other African youths can relate). Dabesaki's 'Service My Country' not only serves as an inspirational for young people to re-orientate their thoughts and strategies, but is also a must-read for development organizations/ agencies, government, NGOs, educational institutions...that have interest in investing in youth development. This is because it gives an insight into young people's perspectives, their everyday struggles and brilliant contributions toward development issues in their communities and countries. Kudos to the Author!!!

SERVICE MY COUNTRY 13 July 2011
Format:Paperback
The book service my country does not only chronicle the service years of a young, dedicated Nigerian but it details the intricate details that go with a life committed to service.

Dabesaki, a young African man has proven with this book that you do not have to be privileged to offer acts of service. All you need is a heart and avenues for serving your country and her populace. The book also shares the stories of youths from different countries of the world who are passionate about change, giving their best and striving for greater heights.
Every young person residing or working in any developing country should read this book. It is so inspiring that it almost made me cry. Governments who are committed to development of their young minds should invest in this invaluable material for libraries and schools.
