Product Description

Product Description

The Server+ credential is the newest certification developed by CompTIA, the Computing Technology Industry Association, and this self-paced training kit provides comprehensive exam preparation for IT professionals moving up from entry-level or A+ status. The "Server+ Certification Kit" delivers a thorough, vendor-neutral study of hardware-related issues in the networked environment, including RAID, SCSI, multiple CPUs, and hot swappirig. Service managers, system engineers/administrators, help desk staff, and other mid-and upper-level technicians can use the kit to build real-world expertise -- as they prepare for the corresponding skill areas of the Server+ exam. Topics include installation, configuration, upgrading, proactive maintenance, environment, troubleshooting, and disaster recovery. The kit is modular and self-paced, with hands-on, skill-building exercises. And the entire book is featured on CD-ROM for easy searches and reference.

This is a great book that has been laid out in an easy to follow manner. The lay out and practical examples given provide pleanty of information to comprehend the authors points. With regards to its specific assistance to the exam it is recomended that you not rely solely on this book. I don't think any book alone will prepare you for this exam. Trial exams and on line forums are highly recommended to get a more complete education on the topic area. I do recommend this text as the basis for your knowlege as i feel it covers all aspects of servers and their environment in a clear and concise manner.

Man...this book is useful! 30 July 2001
By D. Hunter - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This book is worth the cost. I have not taken the test yet (I do plan on it), but it has been heavily useful as far as better understanding the server(s) I work with every day. It also refreshed my mind on the A+/ network+ objectives that are included in the Server+ exam as outlined by Comptia.

The book's CD also contains a full copy of the book, so if you and your laptop want to leave this heavy little tome behind, just download and go! Also, the A-Z network encyclopedia E-book was pretty impressive (it includes several diagrams and a heckuva lot of information).

The only reason I give this book four stars is the simple fact I wish they would have included an interactive, sample test on the CD. Sample tests are usually pretty helpful, and doing them on the computer sets the feel for the actual exam. Otherwise, an excellent book!

Used to study for the Server+ exam, what a real surprise. 10 Jun 2001
By Michael J Woznicki - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
What makes my job so much fun and exciting is that every day new technologies are coming out. To keep up with these changes and to make sure that the best qualified people are hired you need a certification process to measure skill levels.

Having taken the beta exam for Server+ I wish that I could have had this book as a study reference as it shadows the exam objective perfectly. The 500 page book is being considered as my book of choice for the Server+ classes I teach.

Broken down into five parts, with part 1 covering planning, from groundwork to environment to systems. Part 2 is the install and configuration section with coverage of firmware, drivers, NOS, hardware and associated peripherals, monitoring and documentation.

Part 3 is the upgrading section for memory, hardware add-ons, system backups, power and processors. Part 4 takes the proactive maintenance road with backup plans and general housekeeping techniques.

Finally part 5 for troubleshooting and several pages for common problems. The cd-rom included is the Microsoft Encyclopedia of networking and the entire book in electronic format. Overall a very good value for the money.

Enjoyed reading it! 23 July 2001
By K. Anastasio - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I think we all know the dryness that exists in most of MS's study guides but I am hear to say that I actually enjoyed this book! It was very informative and used many analogies to paint a clear picture of the information. After reading the book I thought that there must be somthing I was missing for taking this test. I was wrong! I have no networking experience at all! I read the book, enjoyed it, took the test and passed the first time! Wahlah!
