Life Giving Leadership 29 April 2005
Format:Hardcover
The Servant Leader concept emerged from Greenleaf's deep involvement with colleges and universities in the campus turmoil of the 60's and 70's. The first chapter of the book was written out of concern for pervasive student attitudes which seemed devoid of hope, which is essential to sanity and wholeness of life. The second and third chapters are a pursuit of a structural basis for hope. The remainder expresses different ways in which leaders can serve with skill, understanding and spirit and describe how followers will be responsive only to able leaders who also serve.

The book is a collection of essays, written over a number of years almost thirty years ago and yet they are as challenging and relevant now as they were then. This is evidenced by the book still being in print and on the shelves of good book sellers.

Servant Leadership is a difficult concept to wrestle with and we have few role models to follow, Nelson Mandela is perhaps the only example of a contemporary international servant leader. In this book Greenleaf takes his reader on a voyage of discovery into a leadership style which will transform individuals and organisations because it is concerned with the needs and well being of these who follow. It is leadership which empowers and is life giving, it stands in stark contrast to much of the leadership seen on the world stage today.

Servant Leadership 20 Feb 2009
Format:Hardcover
A seminal work - well worth spending the time to read it. The examination of Servant Leadership in different types of institution means that there is something for everyone in here. I also enjoyed the foreword by Stephen Covey and the afterword by Peter Senge.

This book is a truly remarkable book. It is really an eyeopener and a good reminder of the ideals and ethics employed by leaders in all sorts of fields. So much of this is really forgotten common sense that we all need to be reminded of. An excellent read, even better if applied!
