Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Serious Sam returns to the roots of first-person shooters, serving up big guns, hordes of enemies and plenty of attitude. The entire game is steeped in an ancient Egyptian theme with levels that range from claustrophobic temple passages to wide-open arenas, with surprises around every corner.

The monsters are uninspired, but Serious Sam substitutes quantity for quality. Enemies do little more than blindly rush at you, but when dozens are converging on your position at the same time things get hectic in a hurry. Fortunately there is plenty of health, armour and ammunition packs to pick up along the way, so expect a sore trigger finger after fighting all the way through to the game's epic end battle.

The only real faults with this all-out action fest are that it ends all too soon, and the Egyptian theme--though beautifully wrought--gets old. Still, Serious Sam's bang for the buck ratio is high enough to make most complaints moot, and players will be too busy trying to survive to get bored with the scenery. --T. Byrl Baker

Product Description

Serious Sam places gamers in the role of special forces veteran Sam "Serious" Stone. Sam Stone travels back in time to an ancient Egyptian world with the mission of assassinating a great evil--Notorious Mental. Mental has set forth to wipe out Earth and all Humans for sheer fun, just as it did with all of the other civilizations throughout galactic history. Players can defend the world in either single player or multiplayer modes. Multiplayer modes support two to four players in split-screen action on a single computer. In cooperative mode, gamers can join forces against the hordes of enemies.

In Serious Sam, players will travel through beautiful and realistic terrain, both indoors and outdoors. Serious Sam's powerful 3D technology, based on the company's proprietary Serious Engine, offers directional lighting and realistic-looking daytime scenes. In addition, the game's technology also allows for multi-directional gravity, dynamic volumetric fog and haze, and destructible objects. Players wishing to create their own levels can use the free Serious Editor and Serious Modeller, which are powerful real-time editing tools that include tutorials.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best FPS since Doom 15 Aug 2001
By Tethys
Quite simply the best FPS game released in recent times (and perhaps even of all time). I haven't had that feeling of "they're all out to get me" and "there's too many of them, I can't cope" since Doom. Whereas the Quake series, and even UT, relied on a few enemies to deal with at any one time, Serious Sam is firmly in the hordes of bad guys camp, and it's your job to run amok and reap major mayhem with some serious firepower. Add to that the humourous quotes and situations, and you've got a winner. If only all games were this good. It's even got the option of running in 3rd person mode for those looking for a Tomb Raider style experience. All that's needed to make this game perfect is to have a Linux port. Until then, it's the only reason I have for keeping a windows partition on my machine...

4.0 out of 5 stars Awesome game 8 May 2001
By A Customer
This game has it all - cool graphics, fast framerate (even if you don't have a highend PC), really fast paced action, imaginative monsters and weapons, and some of the funniest moments I've ever seen on a game. It is pure, raw fun reminiscent of Doom, without a complicated storyline or interface. And if you're into multiplayer, it has the best cooperative gameplay since the Doom/Quake days and it uses a very expandable engine. The included map editor, modeler and soon-to-be-released SDK are providing interesting mods and a growing community. I've not rated it as a 5 stars tough, because it is a little too short for my tastes. Also, the USA version has a much better package and is priced as budget software.

5.0 out of 5 stars Serious Sam 12 April 2001
By A Customer
This game is a return to the old days of Doom for the PC. Just run around and blow the hell out of everything. just blood, guts and then some more. A beutiful new graphics engine just brings it to date. plenty of things to kill on screen at one time. a great multiplayer for every hardcore FPS fan. Definatly a game to get if you ever played Doom or Quake and liked it. so go and buy it.
