Webplus Essentials seems aimed primarily at those who want to create a simple site that gets a job done, be it blogging, photo gallery, or whatever. As such, it's a good product that represents decent value, especially since a year's website hosting is included in the price.
It has a built-in FTP client, so even a novice should be able to get a simple site published to the Web and accessible by the global community in a day or so.
Actually, it is perfectly capable of producing more-advanced sites, if you put the effort into learning how to get the best from it - read the tutorial - which makes it even better value. Just don't expect professional-looking results.
It installed easily enough on Win7. As with other Serif s/w, I had to register it to get rid of the nags, just so they can bombard me with marketing. That's annoying and leaves a bad taste, but perhaps a price worth paying for inexpensive products.
I've certainly used website creation tools with more-intuitive interfaces but found this reasonably straightforward, at least until I started trying to modify the supplied templates. If possible, find a template that does what you need and use it with minimal modification, or forget the templates and start from scratch.
It's a shame there's no manual but, other than that, it's hard to fault Webplus Essentials at the price, and I'd certainly recommend it to anyone who wants a fairly basic, non-commercial website.

WebPlus Essentials is a scaled-down version of the larger and more comprehensive WebPlus X4 web-design software.
The program installs fast and opens offering a selection of pre-designed templates to get your new website started quickly using a variety of neutral, home-business and home-user themes eg Family Photos, Keep Fit and a topical Recycling(!) theme. The supplied templates are highly-customisable - adding or changing content is as easy as simply dragging a photo, flash-animation or text-frame box onto the page, exactly where you want it and then typing in your own text or adding your own photo. Once your site is complete then a 12-month web-hosting package is included.
Like WebPlus X4, this Essentials package takes a 'desk-top publishing' approach to web-design with complete flexibility for you to create each page exactly how you want it - and not be confined to pre-designed or inflexible template.
If the templates don't suit your needs then every single component within them can be cut, copied and/or pasted to a new position, re-sized and/or mixed and matched with anything you choose to add to your new site. Further, WebPlus Essentials also incorporates editing facilities for both photos and text with a huge range of fonts to choose from. Fill colours and backgrounds can be changed by simply choosing a colour or texture and dragging it into place and the effects can also be applied to text, photographs and all other components. Really, WebPlus Essentials can produce whatever you want it to and position photos, text, flash animations etc at the exact position you choose to locate it giving you full control over the design and production of your website - and it's both fast and fun to do (see my uploaded screenshots).
This highly-intuitive and enjoyable package will suit anyone wishing to set up a smaller website and is ideal for use by a home-user, small home-based business, club, society or small organisation. It will almost certainly include all the features you need (and more) and has the facility to set up an online shop with shopping cart and link to an external payment processor such as PayPal. However, if you're a more advanced user proposing to set up a larger website and need to be able to include HTML coding, online booking systems or merge a database into your website then you'll need more powerful X4 version.
I've been a user of Serif products for 20 years and always found them to be powerful, stable and reliable. The technical support team are also very good - they answer the phone and respond to emails - unlike many other companies. While conducting this review, I had a problem - the program froze at the start-up screen while 'checking for program updates'. A quick call to Serif, using a UK freephone number, quickly had this sorted and the knowledgeable technician talked me through how to disable this via a simple registry edit. Knowing that such a professional and knowledgeable Technical Support team is on hand to help helps justify the 4-star rating for the product.

In many aspects this is a really fine package for building a simple site: it's pretty intuitive, there's a wide choice of templates (some of them are really nice-looking) AND you get a year's free hosting for your site. That said, however, I must admit that - apparently, like some other Amazon customers - I was annoyed that if you try to modify the templates all hell breaks loose. Also, since I got WebPlus together with Serif's other product - PagePlus - I was deeply disappointed with the fact that you can't import your PagePlus projects to a site created with WebPlus. Sure, I realize that PagePlus is not exactly a web-oriented program, but still - it wasn't what I expected.
