Digital Scrapbook Artist is a great idea! It combines two hobbies or `interests' - that of scrap-booking and computer `design' - be it a formal piece of software or just using a photo editor. The results are excellent. This can be used for all sorts of things - designing birthday cards, flyers, posters, invitations etc. as well as making a scrap-book. It's easy to use, good fun and for those who are `computerate' an easy link between an ancient hobby and modern technology. However, just one word of warning before you rush out and buy this as a present. Some people like the manual approach of making a scrapbook and may not enjoy the software alternative. I remember mind-mapping software trying to make a manual skill into an IT project, not always successfully, so be careful. Make sure this is something the recipient will actually want to do.

I am not a scrapbooker but was drawn to this system as I thought it would be useful for card making. Its easy to install and quite simple to use. Not saying it will not take time, but if you are already confident with the computer, you should pick it fast. Think that even the novice could learn as the pack comes with good user guides. I really enjoyed the Daisytrail digikit as this had some really great items. You can add things to the page such as buttons and bows or tear the page, to create a page that you have made. You can also change page sizes to what your printer is set to print, which is great. I think even as a card maker you could use elements from the collection and all in all good value for money!

I'm a very crafty person but sometimes I can't be bothered with the mess and amount of resources/equipment you need for a project. This is a fun and enthralling alternative.
This digital scrapbook software comes complete with an extra resource disc giving you a total of 12 pre-compiled themes to start you off (Blustery Spring, Cupid, Dolls House, Enchanted, Festive Walk, Furry Friends, Happy Day Out, Melon School, Nursery Rhymes, Paradise Island, Pebble Shore and Planet Pop.) Each theme include backgrounds, embellishments, frames, materials, letters and layouts. Each theme can stand alone when you make your scrapbooks or gives you the option of adding any of the resources from other themes.
I found this very easy to use, when you first open the program it gives you the option of starting with a theme, a blank page, opening a saved project or using a tutorial. If you have any experience of graphics programs you'll find this easy to use, if you're a beginner then don't worry the tutorials come complete with colour pictures and very easy to follow step by step instructions to guide you through the process. You also get a book of the 12 themes which makes it easy to look through to find ideas/resources easily without searching the software.
This lets you choose background colours, pictures, lettering etc to form a background and has an option to replicate pages so that all the pages in your scrapbook can be the same without having to remake it everytime. You can then import your own photos in and have simple options such as red eye removal, contrast, brightness, recolouring to edit your pictures. You can have as many pages in your scrapbook as you like.
Following the tutorial helps you create a complete scrapbook.
This software is also linked to a website called daisy trail. It's free to sign up and gives you an extra 2 themes (Mexican Wave and Playground) it allows you to upload your scrapbook and share it with others. The software has a very easy one click button to allow easy upload of the scrapbooks you make to the daisy trail website and the option of making them public or private.
I found this a lot of fun and very creative. My one whinge is that if you try and recolour any of the embellishments it does work but they don't that the natural look of the other items but I can live with that.
I would say that this is probably aimed at older children/adults as there are lots of buttons and options.
If you like crafts then you'll probably enjoy this.
