Book Description

If you have not read anything about the Baudelaire orphans, then before you read even one more sentence, you should know this: Violet, Klaus, and Sunny are kindhearted and quick-witted, but their lives are filled with bad luck and misery. All of the stories about these three children are unhappy and wretched and will most likely fill you with deep despair.

From The Bad Beginning to The End, this comprehensive collection with unfortunate bonus material that may or may not include trivia questions, character profiles, and several very sad sentences is the only choice for people who simply cannot get enough of a bad thing!

More About the Author

Lemony Snicket was born before you were and is likely to die before you as well. He was born in a small town where the inhabitants were suspicious and prone to riot. He grew up near the sea and currently lives beneath it. Until recently, he was living somewhere else.

Mr Snicket first received his education from public schools and private tutors, and then vice versa. Early in life, he learned to reupholster furniture, a skill that turned out to be far more important than anyone imagined. He has been hailed as a brilliant scholar, discredited as a brilliant fraud and mistaken for a much taller man on several occasions.
A studied expert in rhetorical analysis, Mr Snicket has spent the last several eras researching the travails of the Baudelaire orphans. During his spare time, he gathers evidence and is considered something of an expert by leading authorities. Recently, he had to give up his hobbies due to laws regarding musical performances in mountainous terrain.

Lemony Snicket published his first book in 1999 and has not had a good night's sleep since. Mr Snicket is the author of quite a few books, all dreadful, and has been falsely accused of many crimes, all falsely. Once the recipient of several distinguished rewards, he is now an escapee of several indistinguishable prisons. He is widely regarded as one of the most difficult children's authors to capture and imprison. There are thirteen books in the A Series of Unfortunate Events, which should be avoided at all costs.

To his horror and dismay, he has no wife or children, only enemies, associates, and the occasional loyal manservant. Lemony Snicket's extended family, if they were alive, would describe him as a distinguished scholar, an amateur connoisseur, and an outright gentleman. Unfortunately this description has been challenged of late, but Egmont Press continues to support his research and writing on the lives of the Baudelaire orphans. As he continues with his investigation, interest in the Baudelaire case has increased. So has his horror.

Until recently, he was presumed to be 'presumed dead'. Instead, this 'presumed' presumption wasn't disproved not to be incorrect. Most things written about him are not true, but this is. More miserable news about Mr Snicket and his dreadful books can be found at www.unfortunateevents.com.

5.0 out of 5 stars Addictive reading! 11 Jun. 2012
By clive
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I bought the 13-book collection of Lemony Snicket books, 'A series of Unfortunate Events' as part of my present to my nine-year-old daughter, at her request, so I can't personally say much about them, apart from the fact that her eyes glowed when she saw the books, and that she's been reading and re-reading them ever since! She's also introduced her best friend to them. As a testimonial to their quality and value, all I can do is relay my daughter's comment ("they're the best books ever") and testify how difficult it is to get her to do anything when her nose is buried in them! Amazon was, as usual, incredibly efficient and reliable and the parcel reached me in fewer days than quoted.

5.0 out of 5 stars Snicket: The Complete Wreck. 23 Aug. 2007
Format:Hardcover
Another collection that is better suited to the knowledgeable. This collection is more a chance to buy the full works if you have been looking forward to do so either for yourself or better still, as a present.

A tour-the-force if I ever saw one, "The Unfortunate Series" and derived publications tie in together to choke you with uncertainty, anticipation and sheer rage. It's almost criminal. Being on the lose since 1999, Lemony Snicket and his dubious flesh and bone alter ego have published 13 books. I am buying the last book soon for some weird reason. I heard somewhere the last two chapters are missing but I don't think the author is THAT twisted.

See "A Series of Unfortunate Events: Lemony Snicket: The Unauthorized Autobiography" to complete the wreck.

5.0 out of 5 stars A perplexing ponderous read! 26 May 2007
By Helyx
Format:Hardcover
I have enjoyed Lemony Snicket and his clever way of never giving a clear answer. The Complete Wreck was an unexpected Treasure! The Full Color Illustrated box containing the complete set has a wraparound arcade of 11 various manifestations of Count Olaf, one mysterious depiction I am perplexed about it's meaning, and the full illustration of the Baudelaire's by a mysterious tree.

There is also a special fold out poster included depicting the pernicious play - The Marvelous Marriage!

If you like Brett Helquist's well-researched drawings of the most troublesome life of the Baudelaire's - then this box set is the icing on the cake. I think there are some hidden clues in the illustrations on the box to make you wonder about their connection to the tale.

The Set I received did have all 1st editions (from a higher print run except the last volume The End) was also another unexpected pleasure.

If you don't own the set, then try to snag one of these great box sets.

I think The Series of Unfortunate Events is one of the most perplexing reads. As an Adult I have really enjoyed them - so it's not just for youth. I happen to like Lemony Snicket's approach to putting realism within his writing in a way that starts young people to accept certain harsh ideas within the real world; a modern day Grimm's Fairy Tale.

I tend to think of The Series of Unfortunate Events as a segment of a tale that I will never know everything about the fate of these fine Baudelaire Children as they deal with such a dreadfully dreary downright discouraging difficult drama dilemma. I have enjoyed re-reading this set - which I have found each time that more of the multi-tale within a tale of a tale becomes apparent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic read, a must for children and adults 14 July 2013
By M
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I first read these when I was eight years old and fell in love with them. I was enchanted by the Baudelaire's and their mysterious, endless misery. After watching the film I decided to read them all again, and now aged 20 I have fallen in love all over again.
Lemony Snicket's ( Daniel Handler) writing style is extraordinary, so unlike any other authors, funny dark and even educating.
I cannot recommend these enough. Admittedly every book is similar, but I feel as though the repetitiveness is a way of showing how utterly miserable the books are. From book 7 things really get going so read all the books to truly understand just how fantastic they are.
I will be reading more of Lemony Snicket's books from now on!
This was also my first kindle book i have purchased, I was super impressed that I could easily read these wonderful books at home on my Ipad or out with my phone.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must buy for fans! 26 April 2012
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
I am a biiiiig fan of this series. I read the whole series when I was 10(I am now 14) I suddenly decided to read the series again. I usally get books from library, but they were so slow I started to think about buying them myself, and then I found this box and felt completely in love with it! It has awsome illustrations of Count Olaf of every appereanse he's made in the books (exept for the last one) And there is a big picture in front of the Violet, Klaus and Sunny. For those who are a big fan of the series this is something you just have to own! And for those who haven't read a book in this series a suggest you read the first three books and see if you like them, before you buy this box.
