Review

“Is there a gleam of hope for the orphans and their new friends? Most certainly not. The only thing we can really count on are more gloriously gloomy adventures.” Karin Snelson, Amazon.com

Product Description

The ninth in the dreadful Series of Unfortunate Events continuing the story of the Baudelaire orphans.

Read by Tim Curry. Listen if you dare!

The word “carnivorous”, which appears in the title of this audiobook, means “meat-eating”, and once you have heard such a bloodthirsty word, there is no reason to listen any further. This carnivorous volume contains such a distressing story that consuming any of its contents would be far more stomach-turning than even the most imbalanced meal.

To avoid causing discomfort, it would be best if I didn’t mention any of the unnerving ingredients of this story, particularly a confusing map, an ambidextrous person, an unruly crowd, a wooden plank, and Chabo the Wolf Baby.

Sadly our time is filled with researching and recording the displeasing and disenchanting lives of the Baudelaire orphans. But your time might be better filled with something more palatable, such as eating your vegetables, or feeding them to someone else.

The ninth book in the series is one of the funniest and is extremely interesting throughout, despite a slow build up. The Baudelaire orphans find themselves arriving at caligari carnival in the back of olaf's car this time. They disguise themselves as freaks for the freakshow in this carnival to find out what olafs really up to. It turns out Madame Lulu, a mysterious fortune teller, holds the answers to all the baudelaires question, but as their luck would have it, their are many obstacles along the way, incluing olaf and some hungry lions...

Im not able to comment on whether this is the book in the series as we are still waiting for all 13 books to be published, however I can say that this is the 2nd best book to date. I recently purchased this in Canada and I read it in a few days. The plot follows on from Book 8 (so read Book 8 before this one!!!!)
The scene for this book is a Carnival in the Hinterlands where the Orphans end up after travelling in Count Olaf's car boot. They are sent to work in the Carnival as "Freaks." However you will have to read the book to find out what happens to them in the end. All I will say is the end of the book will leave you wanting the 10th Book (The Slipperly Slope) immediately!!!

Life had never been good for the Baudaulaire orphans. Although Violet, Klaus and Sunny were very talented and clever, they were constantly on the run from people who wanted to steal their fortune and kill them.In addition to this their friends, the Quagmires, had been kidnapped. And then there was the mystery of "the survivor" and V.F.D.In this thriller the Baudaulaires find themselves in the world of the carnival, where carnivorous beasts lurk behind every shadow and trouble clings on to the orphans like velcro, where fortune tellers pedict unpredictable things...
