Outstanding coverage of a very special place

I've been there - twice. I know what Serengeti is like and how important it is to preserve this very special place. Norton has done an outstanding job of conveying the beauty and magnificence of the region. A friend gave me this book as a present and what a present it was. The photographs are beautiful, but it is Norton's text that helps you gain an understanding of the importance of Serengeti in the scheme of preserving the last of the world's great wild places. What makes this book so important is that Norton is leading the battle to save the Serengeti ecosystem from a proposed destructive commercial highway that would knife across the park and very likely halt and destroy the greatest land animal migration on earth. He has devoted a part of his proceeds of the book to Serengeti Watch, a non-profit dedicated to preserving the region and stopping the highway. A great and important book.

WOW! A MUST OWN BOOK!

Having been to Serengeti three times with two more trips planned, I can identify with the prose and exquisite images in this fascinating book. Mr. Norton has actually put onto flat paper the immensity and diversity of the Serengeti ecosystem. Had I not been there before this book would have been a great encouragement to get Serengeti to the top of my bucket list. If you have yet to take the plunge and feel the slightest hesitation, by all means get this BOOK! It will definitely push you over the edge and start the ball rolling for your own journey. It is rare for me to go back to places a second time especially those places very remote and expensive to get to but Serengeti has a draw all its own and once you make the journey, you will want to return again and again. If for some reason this trip is out of reach, then this book is the next best thing to being there in person.
I loved the book. Just looking thru it the first time, I could almost, hear, smell and feel the wildness that I have experienced there in person three times.
Thanks Mr. Norton, your book has made me smile this month and does each time I see it in my living-room.

the pictures are not good at all

I was very surprised by the quality of the pictures. They are not good at all.
Almost all of them are small, not sharp enough, not in focus and they look colorless. Only some of them have a really nice scene showing the hidden side of animal's life. Mostly there are just "portraits" like in any book with animals. I bet those kind of pictures would be possible to take in a zoo.
