Product Description

'Fans of the offbeat will doubtless enjoy this quirky, engaging, Chandleresque detective story set in 1950s' London. The likeably lackadaisical hero and the vividly rendered 50s' setting make this an engaging and unusual read.' --Booklist

'Murray's 1950s' England, with men hardened by war and willing to take long chances, is the perfect milieu for the unflappable Gerard.' --Publishers Weekly

'Combines dollops of post-war atmosphere with thrills aplenty' --Kirkus Reviews

'An agreeable tale of desperadoes, diamonds, derring-do, divas and jazz'
--The Sun

British suspense 20 Jan. 2014
By Smart Sister - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
The lead character Tony is a great, likeable guy who should have been killed several times, but the story was over engrossing. It is set not long after WWII, so there's no necessity for bad language or gratuitous sex. Tony is a decent person and manages to clear up the whole sordid thing without killing a single bad guy. There's plenty of action, though. Reminds me of an earlier time of P.l. fiction.
Noir in the old style 2 Sept. 2013
By R. L. Long - Published on
Format: Hardcover
One of the best "noir" novels I have read. I have just discovered and read many of the "Nordic Noir" genre and find this book the equal to Henning Mankell, Steiger Larson, Jussi Alder-Olsen.
