Book Description

Are you uncomfortable with the thought of controlled crying? Unwilling to share your bed with your baby for months in an effort to sleep? Parents need facts about infant sleep and development - up-to-date information based on evidence rather than myths, old wives' tales and opinions. The Sensible Sleep Solution is a moderate approach, providing month-to-month advice to guide you through your baby's first year and establish good sleeping habits that can last a lifetime. The Sensible Sleep Solution and the COTSS techniques outlined in this book have been devised and successfully used for many years by Dr Sarah Blunden in her sleep clinic and by Angie Willcocks in her psychology practice. Sarah has experience researching and working with families to diagnose and treat children's sleep problems. Angie's area of interest and expertise is with new parents, helping them to adjust to life with children. Sarah and Angie wrote this book to meet a need they saw in their day-to-day work with parents - the need for a sensible, middle-of-the-road approach to establishing healthy sleep habits in the first year of life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic and fascinating book 27 April 2013
By jane
Format:Kindle Edition
A sensible, middle of the road book, for both parents and professionals who want to learn more about babies sleep and development in the first year of life. It uses the COTTS method, (creating opportunities to self-sooth) which gives the reader a chance to learn a way to help the baby get to sleep and is adapted to the different developmental stages. This book could easily be read before or after having a baby, and gives a balanced view of infant sleep issues. There are easy to understand and fascinating explanations on how different sleep is in babies compared to adults, infant brain development, and relationships and how sleeping habits develop. It is sensibly separated into stages of development, so a tired parent can pick up the book and turn to the chapter that is relevant to their baby. I love this book, as it is sensitive, doesn't preach to parents or make them feel guilty about their babies sleep. I like this so much, I have also bought a copy for my pregnant friend, who doesn't want to repeat her experience of the sleep issues she had with her first baby, speaking about which, it also reminds parents that they also need to take care of themselves and their relationship. Something new parents forget to do.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best sleep book ever 23 April 2013
By Elita Hooper - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition
This is the best sleep book to have for all mothers, it would be the first book I would buy for any new mum, it is easy to follow and you can go to the bits that interest you. It is not too long just right in length and any person will understand it.
So for sleep deprived parents this book is great.
5.0 out of 5 stars Sensible Sleep Solution 7 May 2013

I've given the Sensible Sleep Solution as a baby shower gift to two friends now and they have both absolutely loved it. The information is practical, friendly and (most importantly) non-judgmental. The layout of the book is really accessible too - you can flick easily to a specific page or read it cover to cover.
