5.0 out of 5 stars Leading reference for the would-be Sensei or coach 16 April 2014
Format:Paperback
From my own years of experience in the martial arts, I know that the transition from student to teacher is one of the most challenging of all. Kane and Wilder have made the process that much easier and less painful. Their years of experience in the dojo and in business are collected in one easy-to-read volume filled with inspiring ideas and anecdotes. This book will help you to bring out the leader in you, build teamwork and 'esprit de corps' and, in the final analysis, enable those you lead to bring out the best in themselves. Highly recommended.

Format:Paperback
“A superb book that covers all aspects of leadership in a simple, structured and accessible way. This book provides a great resource for all leaders, regardless of whether your leadership role is that of middle manager, small business owner, sports coach, or any other position where you are responsible for the organization, success and wellbeing of others. The underlying principles of leadership are covered brilliantly and the innovative “Task of the Week” sections give the reader the opportunity to put these principles into practice immediately. The complete package!” – Iain Abernethy, Author, Martial Arts Instructor, and Small Business Owner

5.0 out of 5 stars Another hit from Kane and Wilder 27 Feb. 2014
By Dan Rose - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
I found this book to be a useful tool while moving into a new leadership position at work. The tips and tools were short, concise and helpful. Like their other books, this one is well written in an easy to follow conversational prose. As a martial arts instructor and coach, I related to many of the examples used throughout the book. I also enjoyed the quotes used to open each chapter. Many of them are on my personal list of favorite quotations.
Overall, a well written, useful book that takes the lessons from many other leadership books and boils them down into concise to the point messages and tools that we can all use.
I'd buy it again.
Also, if you get the chance, listen to their Martial Secrets podcast.

5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful, real examples and direction toward sustainable leadership 16 Mar. 2014
By George Rohrer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Today, even with all the leadership books and models in the world, the practice of leadership remains confusing, daunting or misunderstood. We know it is important and perhaps for many, it is considered the most vital aspect of success and development. Yet, it can still seem like something we are supposed to acquire that is just out of reach. My friend and mentor, Kris Wilder, has co-authored a book, Sensei Mentor Teacher Coach, that makes the path of leadership accessible and integrative. At the core, leadership is not just something that you do; it is something you become. Kris and co-author Lawrence Kane use modern and classical wisdom from corporate and spiritual principles to provide a guide to leadership that is both timely and timeless. They call forth the leader in each of us to take a stand and master our self for the sack of bringing a higher caliber of leadership into the world. This book is available in paperback, kindle and audible; there is no excuse not to pick up a copy today and open the door to exceptional wisdom. George Rohrer, MBA, CPPC, PCC

5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable Surprise 6 April 2014
By Jim Smoak - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I looked forward to getting my copy of this book, as envisioned it as a good leadership resource as a martial arts instructor. However, when I starting reading it, I quickly realized that what I had was a great resource for me as a leader in many aspects of my life. The authors delivered a book that not only helped me think about how to advise, mentor and lead my martial arts students, but they also (if not more so) gave me a resource that encouraged me to re-think how I lead as a senior manager at the software startup I work for, as a father, and as a husband. Structurally, I loved how each chapter lead off with a tempo-setting quote, and ended with some specific and contextually relevant tips on how to take action on the chapter's subject matter. I've never been let down by a book authored by Wilder and Kane, and this book continues that streak. Nice job gentlemen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thank you for writing this book, it’s made and is making a big difference in my life. 2 April 2014
By J. MAN - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
As someone who is starting on the leadership journey at work, I’ve read many different mgt / leadership books. What I loved about this one was 1) it made sense, was well structured and resonated with me; 2) immediately actionable whilst retaining a coherent whole and 3) that Wilder and Kane are martial artists and can apply that to work and vice versa.

I am a tai chi nut and have felt that much of business could benefit from principles and norms from the martial arts world. As a management consultant I have used some tai chi stuff in workshops and meetings (mostly to get clients to think about things differently) but have felt an oddball and ‘unique’ in combining martial arts and business in a sensible, practical and value adding way. These gentlemen are far far far ahead of where I am and I salute that.

5.0 out of 5 stars What they don't tell you in leadership class 17 April 2014
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
This book is well written to define how to be successful your next stage of career leadership. Too many books published are giving direction on how to be a entry level leader, what do you do after that? Apparently, once you have mastered beginning leadership skills there is no further training needed. Pfft! Of course you need more leadership training and this book helps you to develop those additional skills. I really appreciate how this book has practical examples to describe the leadership principles and goals you should strive towards. It shows me that the authors actually have been through these experiences and created this book from learned activities, much more useful to me than a book of theories. Use this book as reference material, it will help to level set you when you need it.
