Product Description

Product Description

'Born in Egypt, I was brought up in the spirit of Hebrew Palestine. I lived in the Middle East but received a French education. I married an Englishman and we both became Israelis.' In elegant prose, Suzy Eban evokes her unusual childhood and the complexities and rewards of her life as wife of international statesman, Abba Eban. She is a shrewd judge of character, and reveals unknown facets of known personalities.

About the Author

Suzy Eban was born in Egypt of a family of Russian-Jewish descent who had come from Palestine to work in the Suez Canal Company in Ismailiya. She went to French and English schools in Ismailiya and to university in Cairo. Her husband, Abba Eban, became an international statesman and major political figure in the first decades of the State of Israel. She lives in Herziliya.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Memoir, 23 April 2010
By Irene G. Ostroff - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: A Sense of Purpose: Recollections (Hardcover)
This is an outstanding memoir. Suzy Eban's early life in Egypt and her adult life as wife of Abba Eban is a unique window into the early history of the State of Israel. The writing is captivating. Wonderful photos. A must read.
