Music to my ears
on 21 March 2012
Decided I would give these Sennheiser Headphone a whirl, as its one of the most respected names in headphones.
O.k....I havent had any previous experience in the past of Sennheiser equipment, and I was initially surprised by how lightweight these seemed to be...was expecting them to feel more solid, now don't get me wrong, I am not saying by any stretch that they feel cheap and nasty...just not the feel I was expecting.
To wear, they are very comfortable, with a small padded cushion on the headband, and nicely sized ear "cups" for want of a better word, which are also nicely padded.
These have ipod branding on the packaging, but it doesn't appear that they have gone out of their way marketing these as a specific ipod accessory, but I assume they have looked to make these function sucessfully with portable media players, as the cable is thin, lightweight stuff, as on ipod earphones.
To my mind, this choice of cable lets the headphones down, it looks fragile, cheap, feels fragile, yes I suppose as it's got a small 3.5mm jack plug on the end to support media player compatibility, it would need a smaller guage cable, but...really THIS thin?? Can't see it lasting too long before there's a break in the wire, and your sound keeps cutting off and on....
Sennheiser DO include a generic gold jack plug adaptor, so you can use these phones with your home stereo, etc.
Sound-wise, I was really rather impressed...I have seen negative comments made about these headphones when being used with ipods, but I tried mine on my HTC Desire HD phone, and was actually blown away....couldn't fault the sound, plenty of punchy bass, which wasn't overpowering, rich mids, and crisp treble. As for volume, couldn't fault that either.
In summary, a decent looking headphone, maybe looking a bit on the cheap fragile side, lightweight, comfortable with a decent sound (depends on what device your listening to music on!)....Price-wise however, I think asking £70.00, all bar a penny, seems a little steep, as I would expect for that money for them to look a little more robust....maybe we're paying for the Sennheiser name rather then the product?
