5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Headphones 9 Sep 2010
I bought these headphones for work to help block out the unbelievably irritating noises that you cannot ignore in a massive open plan office. At work I am surrounded by people who think I want to listen to them whistle, sing, put conference calls on speaker phone, or listen to their music so loud on cheap headphones you can hear their music from 4 desk away. All little noises that build up slowly to drive your average office worker mad :)

I had your average headphones that came with my iPod and no matter how loud I played my music you could still hear all the ambient noise.

Then came the sennheiser's. The are wonderful. I put them on, flip the noiseguard switch and nearly all the background noise goes away. I can listen to music at a much lower volume but still don't hear what's going on around me. Also because of the ear pieces' design my co-workers can't hear my music either. It does also mean I don't notice the people who hover behind me waiting to ask a question unless they knock on my desk - but that's a plus in my book :)

They are absolutely amazing. They are a little bulky compared to the more popular "in-ear" headphones but that's a trade off for the quality of the sound and the noiseguard.

I would thouroughly recommend these headphones.

I debated whether to get the original version of these very lightweight headphones but was glad I waited untill these became available and do not regret paying more than what the older version is now selling for. They are well made and very comfortable in use and fold beautifully (after a short learning curve) into a robust carrying pouch which can also carry a small I Pod or similar. The thin cable irritates some people, but I found it easy to extract from the pouch and stuff back in. The new, smaller battery case and control pod is not at all a nuisance - clips easily on your shirt or just dangles with hardly any weight. Sound quality and range is good for most music styles (I have broad tastes) and the noise cancelling very effective if not complete - but then you wouldn't expect total isolation with small over the ear phones. I used them on a long haul flight to Cuba - did the job perfectly - hardly noticed them on my head!

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good, but not brilliant.... 2 Dec 2010

    Amazon Verified Purchase
    Good points:

    - Nice compact size and with a little practice are easily folded up and packed into a small bag, which also had a pocket for my IPod Nano 5th Gen.
    - Noise cancelling is quite good with no music on, with music on and noise cancel on you really can not hear anything around you
    - Very reasonable price tag

    Bad points:

    - My nano with the EQ set to Rock really did not seem to have enough power to drive these so I had to use no EQ to get the most out of the volume level, which then reduces the bass which was a shame. When the noise cancel is off the volume is very quiet so they can not really be used without the noise cancel on (which does not bother me, but I thought I should note it down)
    - Noise cancelling with music off is not great, its quite good. I have now purchased the Bose Quiet Comfort 15's which are astoundingly good with the noise cancellation, but not as practical in size.
    - The battery pack half way down the cable is very annoying when you are squashed on a train, I seemed to have to do a lot of fiddling about getting myself setup for my journey, sorting the cable, clipping on the battery pack under my tie which falls off when you are walking around.

I know this looks like more bad than good, but in overall performance they are not bad at all, I am now using them for my wifes IPad and I have the Bose in my ruck sack for going to work.
