Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

The MKE 300 has been specially designed for use on film and video cameras/camcorders. It is fitted onto the camera's flashmount and by virtue of its super-cardioid/lobar pick-up pattern picks up the sound coming from the direction the camera is pointing at.

Product Description

The EW 112-P G2 system is ideal for video recording theatre performances and presentations. The ME 2 clip-on microphone is virtually invisible. The extremely small SK 100 G2 bodypack transmitter and EK 100 G2 camera receiver feature nine frequency banks with four directly accessible presets each ready for immediate use.

I got this mic a while back for my Sony DCR-HC18 Handycam and now i cant think what i would've done without it when making my films. The sound quality is great and i would recommend this to anyone with a consumer camcorder who is looking into doing film making. For your average holiday videos and birthday parties, its abit overkill and there are cheaper alternatives. Unfortunately, this mic is quite fragile. Pulling off the wind protector reveals small and delicate electronics that just isn't designed for travel. Also, the 3.5mm mic jack cable that connects to your camera is weak, so just make sure you put it in a hard case when taking it shooting.

Its quite a steep price for an amateur, but you wont have to worry about the quality of your sound from then on. Just switch it on (takes watch sized batteries and lasts for around about 100 hours which is brilliant)and plug it in. Attach it to a boom pole/monopod/broom handle and you've got yourself a fantastic mic great for film makers and serious shooters.

A Good All-Rounder 22 Nov 2007
This small shoe mounted microphone is a terrific addition to any camcorder for any serious camcorder user. The directional mike picks up the slightest sound from a reasonable distance. The battery life is pretty good and the overall look gives the impression of a serious mike - very important if you want to look like a pro!

I've used mine on my old Panasonic MS-1 SVHS pro camera, my Sony HDR-FX1 and on a small Panasonic GS series - it worked well on all of them. The cable is a little fragile, although as I've taken care of mine I've not had any problems. The batteries are small watch type ones and this unit cannot use phantom power. Also, it is mono feeding the same signal down both channels.

Perhaps a little bit daunting as a purchase for amateurs due to the price, but if you're a serious camcorder user you already know that you need to do something about your audio pickup. A great microphone at what I think is a reasonable price.

phenomenal! 10 Dec 2006
By James S. Dodds - Published on Amazon.com
I'm sorry the previous reviewer had problems with his/her unit. I don't believe that experience is typical. I and my colleagues have used these in tough expeditionary situations all over the world. The directionality and quality is phenomenal. They do seem cheaply constructed - so much so that I avoided getting one in favor of much more expensive, heavier mics, until I used a friend's on a shoot and was sold. In my experience they are excellent in every way.

Best super-cardoid mic for less than $1000 4 Mar 2008
By Clark Turner - Published on Amazon.com
In the 20 years that I have been doing corporate videography, I have always believed that it's better to invest more and have the best equipment rather than try to cut corners and end up with mediocre results.

The super cardoid pattern is very effective at focusing the sound input and will pick up audio up to 30' in front of the camera very clearly. The sound quality is perfect, excellent tone without noticeable noise.

We have compared this mic to pro mics like the Sennheiser MKH-60 ($1500) and Audio-Technica AT-4073a ($1100) and found the audio quality to be almost the same. The higher end mics will probably hold up better under heavy use, however we have not experienced the issues that some other reviewers have written about. They are only used by qualified technicians that have been trained to respect the equipment so they are not going to strain the cord or bang it around.

Sennheiser Mic failure - Bad Cable 23 Sep 2007
By S. K. KOELLE - Published on Amazon.com
I purchased the Sennheiser shotgun microphone last December 2006. It Just stop working during the filming in the middle of a "Once in a Life Time" event. Lost all the audio for the video I shot that day. Yep that's right BAD cable. This microphone has a major problem with the cable. I have been very careful using the microphone. The cable was never stretched or abused. I take very care of all my camera equipment. I don't know what I can do with this broken microphone now but I wouldn't buy another one.
