4.0 out of 5 stars a step up 19 Feb 2007
Always rate Sennheiser kit and my PX100s are the best most robust portable headphones I have owned.

These HD205s are a step up from those with a nice sound stage, good bass and a clear sound. Better separation than the PX100s better overall sound.

But, they are not as comfortable and on my largish male head they are a bit tight. They seem to fit my daughters head better and she immediately commented on the good sound quality. Amazon are [...] cheaper than the high street too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great value and performance! 22 Aug 2007
I just got a set of these headphones to replace my last pair and so far I'm more than happy with the results. Unlike my last pair, these Sennheisers really keep the sound in so no more complaints of music leakage from my office mates! I was able to turn up way loud without anyone hearing anything.

It's worth remembering that these are not audiophile headphones, which is to say that they don't have the best dynamic range or the rich treble and bass of some headphones. What they do have is a great reference sound with excellent clarity and separation, and a bit of mid-range bias, which will be fine once your ears get used to them.

Comfort is subjective. Personally I like the way they clamp strongly onto my ears but it does make them feel less lightweight than they really are. Build quality is great, they seem very robust, with a good long cable, plus they come with a storage bag. Overall I can't imagine getting better sound quality or value for the money.

3.0 out of 5 stars Tight clamp - but awesome sound quality 29 Nov 2008
By D. L
I write this review with regret. These are a great pair of headphones, build quality is top notch, the swivling right headphone is useful, the design is nice as well.

The main problem is the tight clamp, I've had these headphones for a while now, maybe a year. I have tried to stretch it (stacks books in between to stretch it) and it does work for a day - but after that it goes back to its original "tight" state. Maximum time I can wear these is an hour.

If you have a large head (I don't think I do!) then stay away, if your head is an "adequate" size (whatever that is) then these are perfect. Sound quality and bass is really nice and smooth, with a "warm" touch with the pleasing deep bass and clear mid's and high's.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW, quality, fit, sound, amazing 29 Oct 2007
I was bought these headphones and on first impression, i wasn't too impressed, they looked too small and tight, so unlike my other headphones they stayed on the side. I was bought these because my 40 sony headphones were on the way out and someone recommended these. So after being on the shelf for a few wks my sony's gave up after nearly 2 and a half yrs. So to the actual review. These headphones fit PERFECTLY they seem tight until i actually put them on they have a really nice snug fit this helps filter out ambient noise which it does fantastically, it blocks out all ambient conversation around me. At work i can wear these and filter out all background noise. After this amazing feel i wasn't sure how they would sound, but was once again amazingly surprised. Amazing sound quality definetely as good as my sony's if not better. but the more i listen the better they sound. I've now being using them for... 7 months and they are still fantastic I use they as normal headphones and for monitoring sound with a video camera and in a studio. They are a fantastic pair of heaphones and i would recommend to anyone especially for the price. They are definetely a 100 out of 100 product. Oh and before i forget they come with a really nice black carry case/bag, which is really nice so the cable doesnt get damaged.

What can I say other than another good effort from Sennheiser. In terms of sound, i preferred them to the HD215 headphones.

The only downside is, like my HD25-1's and HD650's the clamping effect is very hard, and might not be suited to everyone. Build quality is top notch though, and you get one of those handy (not) carrying bag. Out of the sub 50 headphones I have, I've never ever had call to use one of those carrying bags, but you might find one.

Recommended: Oh, absolutely. One of the better Sennheiser's!

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice set of headphones 14 Feb 2008
By Lennie
Overal these are a good set of headphones and for the price definitely recommended. They have great seperation and detail and deliver a good listening experience. The only thing I would say is that they shouldn't really be used by anyone wanting reference headphones. This is because although the bass and mids are pretty much as they should be, the top end is rolled off which colours the sound somewhat. However the benefit of this for the overal listening experience is that is gives a nice rounded sound and prevents your ears from getting fatigued if you are listening over long periods of time.

2.0 out of 5 stars Lack of Bass and Uncomfortable 27 Sep 2009
I am a fan of Sennheiser headphones but have to admit these are not what i was expecting. the phones are uncomfortable after around an hour of use so are not recommended for gamers etc. the bass quality is lower than usual for Sennheiser and the phones have an overly trebly sound. i tried leaving the phones stretched out (around a dreamcast console lol) for a few days and while it made them slightly easier to wear for extended periods they still remained uncomfortable. i imagine the phones would be suitable for a DJ who would only be using them for a short period of time (and while they are worn they do block out outside noise) and they are very well constructed and could take a beating. However Sennheiser should have aimed these phones at that market.
