I travel by air weekly and I've ummed and arred about buying noise cancelling headphones for sometime. At last I decided to purchase the Sennheiser PCX300 headphone prior to a 10hr flight. They are worth every penny.

They don't cancel out all noise but they cancel out most of the noise. I was sitting right next to the engines and I had my video volume tunred right down and the sound was clearer than I had ever heard on a flight before. Even when not listening to any audio, just having the noise cancelling switched on they provide a good level of noise cancellation, enough to help me get some sleep.

You really notice the difference when you take the headphones off, the noise is so loud in comparison.

I only wish I'd purchased these months ago.

I got the PXC-300 to replace my PX-200s which I have been pleased with, but not thrilled. The first thing I noticed is the sound quality of the PXC-300s is excellent. I am not an audiophile, but for me the sound is very rich, unambiguous with a good balance between bass and treble frequencies. Pop, rock, classical have all sounded best ever.

I bought these with a long air flight in mind - I have not taken the trip yet but I have tested the noise cancellation and found it to be good. I have not used this technology before so have nothing to compare it to. I feel that it copes with continuous noise (like traffic) better that one off noises (like hammering). Even so, all sound is wonderfully reduced just leaving you to enjoy the music. When comparing to the old PX-200s, the difference was substantial.

The sound without the Noise Cancellation turned on is only fair. So plan to use these with this feature turned on all the time, even in quiet environments. I understand from a colleague that the two AAA batteries last for ages, so no issue there.

The quality of construction is extremely good. The look and feel strong, stylish and fit for purpose. The hard case this comes with is just big enough to fit the headphones etc, so can be a bit fiddly to pack away but this is a minor quibble.

The pack also comes with socket adapters for large style headphone sockets and also for the twin style aircraft socket (so you don't have to use those sad disposable ones they hand out in flight!).

Overall, I strongly recommend these.

I was very undecided after reading mixed reviews for this type of product but have been very please. They make a tremendous difference with regular noise. I find that on Aeroplanes they make a great reduction to the engine noise. if you listen to the movie or your IPOD at a comfortable level with the noise reduction on, and then turn it off, the background noise completely drowns the music. This just shows how effective they are. Being able to listen at this queiter level is good for your ears and general tiredness. The sound quality is very reasonable.
The phones have to be fitted carefully, and become uncomfortable after about 3 hrs. I find theat when I don't want to listen to music, I can just put them on to reduce noise levels.
They come with a nice case and adaptors for aeroplanes.
