With the new regulator/headset unit control the latest models of iPod®, iPhone® and iPad® even more simply. No fumbling and tipping on the player - the user simply presses the buttons integrated in the cable and thereby controls the volume, starts the music, stops it or jumps to the next title. Connected to the younger iPhone models, the unit works like a headset. This also enables the voice control of these models.

I got these headphones after a recommendation and a test from a friend. I've had proper in-ear headphones before, but these are the first that fit my tiny ear canals and that don't cause any discomfort during extended periods of use. The remote is a bit sensitive compared to others I've tested, not a major issue though. The cable as well is a bit clunky and get stuck with bags etc.

The sound quality is good, the microphone is really good.

Pros: Sound quality, accessories, microphone, weight, fit
Cons: Price, remote sensitivity, cable clunkiness

As with any Sennheiser headphones I have tried, I cannot fault these headphones! Bass is clear, but not overpowering, mid and high frequencies are refreshing crisp and clear.

As far as looks go, they're not stunners - but are practical and comfortable.

An important thing to note if you are used to Apple's headphones with remote/mic on the cable for the Right earbud, is that with the CX880i, the remote is on the other side - the cable for the Left earbud. Not too much of an issue, but after a year of using Apple headphones, it's hard to break the habit of reaching for the remote on the right hand side!

Buttons on the remote are tactile and easy to press but not quite as elegant as the Apple headphones.
The Mic is positioned on the top of the remote - which is great as it's actually pointed at your mouth (Whereas the Apple mic is on the back, and picks up noise from your shirt rustling)

My biggest gripe, and reason for losing a star, is the case that is intended for storing the headphones.
It's leather (or faux leather) and well constructed.

But the problem is: It's huge.

3.5" x 2.5" x 1" (almost as big as my iPhone, and over twice as thick)
Not really the best solution for storing them when you're out and about!

I've now got to consider if I should neglect to use the case, possibly shortening their lifespan, or putting up with carrying around a bulky case wherever I go!

Overated and overpriced 21 April 2012
    By T. Webb
Very disappointed with my first Sennheiser experience. I bought these as a replacement for my Denon AHC-560r. I plumped for them as they are in the mid market £100 price point. My expectation was that they would be well built, easy to use and sound awesome. Sennheiser failed to deliver on all three points. Sound quality is no better than a pair of £10 Sony earphones. Build quality is appalling with cheap plastic finishes. Unlike my metal Denon's, and iBeats, the Sennheisers are plastic and for a premium product this is not acceptable. Finally the remote control is inconsistent missing clicks and inputs. I do not know ho Sennheiser can place a premium price on what is a low end product. £39.95 would be about right for this plasic toot. Returned for a refund. I'm going to chance my arm with the more expensive ie8's

Good but not worth the money
Sound great but not worth the expense. Lots of cable noise and barely block out any background sound. Definitely not good for commuting or jogging.

    Not worth the price
Good earphones. But not meant for working out as the earpieces get very slippery with sweat and the cord makes a lot of noise when you run. Read more
