like the Sennheiser CX300 the cable is still to short
but the sound is fantastic a big improvement on earlier models also the cable is now rubberized so there is not the problem of that horrible feedback , they feel well made and look great and come with a bag a winder thingy :-)

would give 5 stars if the cable was a little longer but maybe im the only one who thinks that

I previously owned the Shure E3c earphones but didn't get on with them at all. Bass was really really weak, and found them very uncomfortable and intrusive.

Took a risk and bought the Sennheiser CX 500's and was blown away.
The sound, especially bass, is really good (I actually had to turn the bass down on my ipod eq to listen to rock/metal - but would be superb for dance etc.)

They fit really well, just sit inside the ears, no need to squeeze them in until they're almost touching your brain. Just pop them in to get a good seal.
They are also extremely lightweight(earphones and the cable) which means you hardly feel them, and also they stay in your ears.

The high range doesn't quite match the E3C's with their 'microdriver technology' , symbols, high pitch guitar solos etc. just aren't as rich and full (hence only 4*'s), but the quality bass really does improve the overall sound. I guess it depends what you are listening to.

Fantastic price on amazon as well. Checked the highstreet, and the CX300 (2 models down) were retailing for almost the same (couldn't find CX500's anywhere)

The volume control is handy, its just a little plastic slider but does the job and saves you reaching for your mp3 player.
Also comes with a nice cable tidy and carry bag.

all in all a great deal, comfertable good sound - would highly recommend.

I've been using Shure E2C's for around 5 years, which are at a similar price point to these Sennheisers. And although the Shures are a little bit bulkier, heavier and not as sexy-looking, I found the Sennheisers impossible to get on with.

Here are my gripes:
* First and foremost, could not get the earbuds properly and completely into the ear canal after trying all the provided tip types and sizes... I just couldn't get a proper seal because (a) the silcone is bit more 'slippery' than the ones on the Shures so they don't stick in the ear as well, and (b) the earphones themselves are too small to get a good finger grip in order to twist them into the ear to form a good seal (the advantage of the Shure's size is they are very quick and easy to twist into the ear)
* The result of not being able to get a good fit in the ears is that noise isolation is virtually non-existent. And secondly, the actual sonic quality ends up sounding a little on the tinny side with no low-end bass audible.
* The cable, although slimmer and slicker than the Shures, is made of a more 'grippy' sleeve material which attracts friction on clothing and causes a heck of a lot more 'noise' through the earphones when it rubs on whatever you happen to be wearing.
* Since these earphones are designed to be worn like a traditional earphones (i.e. without the cable being wrapped behind the ears like the Shures or other professional in-ear monitors), I found there was a lot of excess cable that kept getting in the way and causing more of the friction-noise problem.
* As others have said, the overall cable length needs to be at least 30cm longer.

On the plus side is the in-line volume control .. but I didn't really buy these for that feature. The carry pouch is also good for keeping all the bits and pieces together.

In summary, I would avoid these earphones and spend my money on another pair of Shures.
