These headphones are the best I have ever used, and I've used many 'in ear' headphones like this. They do have rather strong bass levels, but you can easily dial them out with the equaliser on your player. They are also rather loud, I've had to drop the volume levels down a couple of notches, which is rather useful for battery life.

These things are constructed very well, these aren't like the cheap rubbish you get free with your player/phone, or buy in Woolworths for 2 quid. In case anything goes round you are covered by Sennheiser's 2 year warranty, free of charge.

A comment about the Eco packaged item, Sennheiser didn't recognise this product when I rang them up (I was just trying to understand the warranty process.) You will have to return the item to Amazon if faults do occur, so keep your Amazon invoice!

Now you may see these headphones on the marketplace for under £5 and also see some poor reviews. Well these are fakes! Sennheiser DO NOT sell OEM products, the headphones will ONLY come in their plastic packaging or Amazon's own Eco packaging. Do you really think Sennheiser can make these quality headphones for £2? What you get for your £3 is a £3 pair of headphones, aka pap! Remember fakes come in plastic bags, fakes will have a 'straight' (usually gold) plug, the metal grill for the speakers will look like it has been pushed on (real Sennheisers are put on the inside,) after the split the wire for the right speaker is about 50cm on real Sennheisers, it is 30-34cm on fakes. I hope this helps.

I bought these after seeking some earphones to deliver some quality sound from my MP3 player.

I have had 3 sets of Sony MDR-EX71s so far. I love the sound and fit of these but all have fallen apart within about 6 months.

In the quest for better sound I bought some Shure E2Cs about a month ago. These do sound good if you can get them deep in to the ear canal and to stay there. However, I could not get them to stay in place having tried all 9 ear pieces and did not find them comfortable. The sound is then not at all good on these if they are not snug.

I then took delivery of the CX300s today. I have only been using them for an hour or so but already I am impressed.

The comfort level is very nice. The wire is not heavy and do not pull the buds down or out. They come with three different size earpieces (I believe the same sizes as the Sonys). The mediums, which are in place in the package, fit perfectly. I can hardly feel that they are in.

Sound wise, as I say, I have only had these on for about an hour but the soundsquality is great. Music separation is good. Bass is strong and punchy. Compared to the Sonys: better for sure in my opinion. Compared to the Shure's: hard to tell as I never had them in place long enough to get consistently good sound but I would say not a whole heap difference. If the CX300s are any worse it is not significant and the far nicer comfort would lead me to choose the CX300s over the Shures every time.

I can whole-heartedly recommend these as a more then adequate replacement for anyone looking for an upgrade in sound quality from standard earphones supplied with portable music devices.

Hope this helps you make a more informed choice.

When you first open the packaging you can't help but be disappointed by these head phones: the wires feel cheap & nasty and they're not even symmetrical for goodness sake! It's not until you walk down a busy street listening to music at a reasonably low volume with cars rushing past that you start to see the value in the Sennheiser CX300s. The noise reduction works a treat. Of course if you want absolute silence you're not going to get in at this price. But I did notice significant improvements over ipod and sony head phones and it means that I am able to look after my hearing better by listening to music at much lower levels.
But there is a downside: You hear every little noise coming through the wires. Even on a still day you can hear the effect of wind on the cables coming through the headphones. Also there are clear audible noises every time the wires knock against your clothes. On a windy day noises like this could cancel out the benefit of reduced environmental sounds.
The sound quality is good but not that incredible compared with most bundled headphones. If you are expecting a vast improvement over ipod headphones you will be disappointed.
Also, the Sennheiser CX300 is no good for Sony Ericsson users as for some reason they amplify background hiss from the phone's music player. I've tried this with 2 different models of SE Walkman phones and found that the bundled headphones gave quieter sounds but eliminated most of the hiss.

Finally a couple of words on price: On Sunday I saw these head phones retail at £30 from the Sennheizer stand at the Stuff & What Hi Fi show. There is no way that the CX300's are good enough to warrant that kind of price tag. Even at £18 (current amazon uk price) they feel over priced because of the nasty wire. They are marginally better then standard ipod or Walkman head phones but not worth a lot of extra cash. I paid £14 and I think that price is a good reflection of the performance value of these headphones.

In conclusion: the CX300 are good sounding headphones with noise reduction that works. But the overall value is let down by the nasty feel of the wires and excessive interference noises. They make a good replacement for broken or warn out ipod headphones but aren't worth buying as an `upgrade'. Sony Ericsson users should avoid them altogether.
